Europe To Asia And Back

Wed Mar 24, 2010 8:29 pm

Hello fellow travellers,

I am planning an Asia tour that will take place in late August and I have need of advice. First ill tell you how it looks like and at the end ill ask my questions:

Total Time: 21st august to 5 september (16days total)

Origin and end destination: Warsaw

Flight Plan:

21st August early morning flight to Warsaw on BA
21st August midday flight London to Hong Kong with Cathay Pacific
25th August Depart to Tokyo with Cathay Pacific
25th to 4th September visiting Japan, incl, Nara, Hiroshima, Tokyo, MT Fuji and Kyoto
5th September Depart to Munich on ANA Nippon then LH to warsaw

My first question is: Should I take away 3 days off Japan and use them to visit either Shanghai or Singapore? Or should I get to know Japan intimately?

Is the airline choice a good one? I don't need to fly via LHR just seemed the most economical choice. Also I am keen on choosing Air New Zealand after reading a couple of good reviews. I will be flying mostly Economy or Premium economy if its worth it.

Thats all I can think of now,

Advice would be much appreciated!!!!

Thanks
Milka

I am confused...you are flying TO Warsaw from London, or FROM Warsaw to London? I assume from...

Back on topic...

With Shanghai, you need to consider your visa situation, which is different than Hong Kong. I am not sure how it is for Germany (or Poland or whatever citizenship you have), but usually you need a visa to get into Mainland China (i.e. Shanghai) but NOT for Hong Kong.

If you need a visa, then I personally don't think the expense is worth it. I love China, it's my favorite place to visit, but the visa expense/hassle for a trip of only a couple days is worthless. Singapore...just consider that Tokyo to Singapore is at least an 8 hour flight I believe, so it's no quick hop like Shanghai is. Add in travel time to and from the airports, check-in, etc. and you have 12+ hours...is it worth spending 1/2 day of your (relatively) trip on that?

I would either (a) stick to Japan, which is amazing and deserves 10 days for sure, or (b) fly over to Seoul if you want to see as many places as you can

thnx sw733 for the reply, and by the way I was in namibia last summer, beautiful country!!!!! loved it

to clear things up, yes it was meant to be warsaw to London sorry

and I have been in Seoul before so I dont think it's worth visiting again,

I have german citizenship but live in poland,

I understand it does not make sense getting a visa for only 3 days, ill take your advice on that then,

however what about flying to Singapore from London and then going to Hong Kong and then to Tokyo?

and advice on the airline choices would be also welcomed

How about TPE? Immigration Requs. are similar to HKG for DE citizens.

Are you on any budget constraints? If not, it's recommended that you visit Singapore or Shanghai too. At that period, Shanghai will be having the Shanghai Expo 2010 (which I'll also be going to!) and I guess you might want to have a visit to Singapore's Universal Studios or taste the unique food in Singapore that cannot be found elsewhere in the countries you are planning to visit. =)
One way I will fly around the world!

Since you seem to like Air New Zealand, it is likely that going via FRA may be a better choice, or have better fares because ANZ is Star Alliance.
