BD Diamond Club - Silver Status

Thu Mar 25, 2010 9:23 pm

Ok fellow travellers, my question is about the process of achieving diamond club Silver Status.

I had a look at http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/bmi-diamond-club-486/ and also at the bmi website but I am still not 100% clear what happens to my status points when I go from BluePlus to Silver.

Also, do I understand correctly that my Status Points will only expire at the end of the membership year and shall NOT be affected by any redemptions in the meantime?

I am on the verge of moving onto Silver Status and will be doing so when I fly in August. However, in the meantime, I would like to redeem miles for a flight in May but I need to make sure that this won't change my Status Miles balance.

The August flight is paid for me so I have no option to redeem miles then hence I can only redeem in May.

thanks

Howdy... glad you found the DC forum on FlyerTalk. I would have directed you there whatever the question

As a Diamond Club member you have two mileage balances: Status Miles and Destinations Miles.

Your Status Miles expire at the end of your membership year. When you hit 16,000 Status Miles and become Silver, your Status Miles balance will reset to zero and you must reach 16,000 in the subsequent twelve months to maintain Silver. Your membership year is twelve months from whenever you reach your current status, so from a standing start if you hit 16,000 in six months, your membership year will run from twelve months from that point.

You'll need to check this, but as far as I know DC Destinations Miles do not expire, and are not affected by changes in status, so you can redeem those miles and you're Status Miles balance won't change.

With Silver status you will earn a 25% bonus on all Destinations Miles earnings, so if you fly frequently in the Star Alliance it's a pretty rapid way to earn miles redeemable on a huge selection of airlines. Plus, don't forget that DC offers two ways to redeem miles: miles alone or half miles and half cash. With business class redeeming at just 1.5x economy class, miles+cash is the best value way to redeem into J.

Happy travels.

Thats my understanding as well but I thought to ask to be sure.

Indeed, the option points + cash is looking good for J. I hope to be using this combination to fly the A380 with LH when it finally enters the FRA-JFK route.

Thanks a lot.

Actually I'd better just clarify... what I meant to say was

Quote:

Note the full-stop at the end of that sentence. There is no uncertainty for the second part of the original sentence: Destinations Miles are not affected by changes in status.

points + cash

Miles + Cash is indeed one of the few plus points of the BMI Diamond Club program and the 38K needed to renew Gold Star status. Sadly many other benefits have been eroded over the years including the upgrade opportunities.

If I am not wrong, Miles & More requires many more points for Gold Status. I wonder why people prefer M&M over bmi diamon club

I dont know anyone that loves ''Miles and less'' lol.... Other than BMI the TK and AC programs are good to earn status and I suspect OA/A3 will be when they come into Star.
