How Is Non-Revving With DL Nowadays?

Wed Mar 31, 2010 9:39 pm

It's been about 4 yrs since I quit working for OH, and obviously a lot has happened since then. With all of the changes, how is the non-rev process on DL now? When I worked there, it was based on seniority throughout the whole system. Now I hear that if you work for DL, you automatically get boarding precedence over any subsidiary employee. Is that true?

Well, it was based on seniority within your airline. If I happened to be flying on an OO flight, any OO employee had a higher priority than me. This is before I retired. I don't see much difference, not. Feel free to correct me.

My daughter, who works for OO, just got back from MAN. She and her husband got B/E, in both directions. Somehow, if I was flying, I think I would be lucky to get coach on the same flight. Just seems to be the way it goes, nowadays.

If she's with OO she and her husband fly at S3C priority. And if you're a DL mainline retiree you get S3B priority, so you would have gone ahead of the both of them.

Almost true. On all DLC flights (excluding OO and EV), DL mainline employees get priority over the DLC carrier employees. OO and EV didn't agree to this system though, and DL mainline employees fly at S3C on flights operated by OO and EV, while their respective employees get S3 on their own flights.

I should have made it more clear. I didn't mean if I was on the same flight, just flying in general it seems like I get stuck back in coach. Just spoiled from when I was working, I guess.

Do they still have the S2 priority with the DLC? Would that bump you ahead of a DL mainline employee if you worked for OO?

I thought S2 was for DL mainline employees, only?

It may be now, but when I worked for OH, we had 6 S2s we could use.

What's the typical order of priority on the "S" scale? I'm using a buddy pass thanks to a friend who's a mainline DL employee to get to Florida in a couple weeks.
A310/319/320/321/333, ARJ, BN2, B722/73S/733/734/735/73G/738/739/744/757/753/767/763/764/777, CR1/2/7/9, DH6, 328, EM2/ERJ/E70/E75/E90, F28/100, J31, L10/12/15, DC9/D93/D94/D95/M80/M88/M90/D10, SF3, SST

I can't speak for current policy, but when I was there, buddy passes were on S4 priority. So after all active and retired employees board, then you can board.

Didn't know that. I thought mainlines, even when I was working, were the only ones to get S2s.

S2s used to be called "vacation" passes and could only be used if you were actually on vacation. Can't remember which year it was changed, but it certainly made more sense to change them to "priority" passes that you could use whenever you wanted.

you will be travelling S4. Normal DL employees travel S3. They are allotted certain amt of S2s as well that employees use on flights that are full. S3b goes before you as well..this would be nondependants and retirees. Then u have S3c which are mostly Connection carriers.
Then we have buddypass S4.

So,
S2
S3
S3b
S3c
S4

hope that helped

How is non-revving now? Simple it Sucks, its next to impossible it seems to get anywhere these days, I couldn't go home for Easter this year since the flights were full (and since the merger DL has givin us too small of aircraft). Also trying to get first class.. good luck, seems like the upgrade list on any given flight is 30 people long before non-revs.

It's always been a nightmare to try and non-rev anytime around spring break or Easter. Nothing new, there.

Perhaps DL will put a 777 on the route to accomodate you. Not a 747, though.....that would be foolish.  Wink

Very true. Although, I had fun non-revving when I worked for OH. More times than not, I would hop the daily 777 to FRA and then return on the very same 777! Why? It was cool getting the BizElite treatment, and I had never flown on an aircraft that big at the time. A lot of people thought I was wierd because of the way I non-revved, but I didn't care. I would sometimes hop the 10 am MD-88 down to ATL on a Tues. for lunch at Mandarin Express and some plane-spotting, and then catch the 6 pm CR7 back home!

Former NW employees and former NW retirees are still not allowed to fly ZED on AF at the special Skyteam ZED fares that former DL employees and DL retirees have access to. In fact in the ZED fare calculation page of Deltanet, ex NWA employee can't even price a regular ZED fare on AF. This was explained many months ago as a result of DL and NW not having a SOC. The SOC has been in place for quite a while now, but the restriction has never been listed.

That's odd. My daughter, who works for OO is eligible for those special ZED fares. I hadn't even heard of them until she told me about them.

Three of us nonreved to LAS just this last week, even with spring break.
We were able to get in first and we are low on the list as S3Cs.
It is difficult but not impossible....

I have asked via ECC and Deltanet , when this situation will be fixed or if it will be fixed. Have never received an answer, The fares are a very good deal but only if you can get them. I wanted to use them from CDG-LHR, but it looks a though I will have to use KL CDG/AMS/LHR instead.

Also does anyone know if Delta has ticketing facilities at all their international destinations, since ZED tickets can only be purchased at at Delta ticket counter? Unable to get an answer to that question.

CDG and AMS do at least at the airport

Since the hours of operation are pretty limited at the aiport, i would play it safe and get yourself 3 or 4 different ZED or ID90 tickets in ATL or wherever, and just return them if you dont end up needing them.
Cant tell you how any times i wish i would of planned ahead!!

They do. I've had ZED tickets written in BKK/SIN/ATH within the last year. ATH surprised me since DL contracts out to Swissport for ground handling.

They should just publish an official memo to the PMNW people: "Don't rock the boat and STFU"

This has been so ever since they started gate upgrades, internet sales, etc., so, it's been this way way before I retired in 2005. Nothing new, here.

While I guess there is a part of me that can sympathize I have to say be glad you have non rev benefits..In truth I feel am more entitled to flight benefits than you are being I actually worked for NW for 17yrs but see the final screwing I got was when we got our final generous offer from NW to resign after being raked over the coals for most of my career the next to the final nail was that I came up one year short of having retirement flight benefits your age and yrs of service had to add up to 60 or greater. I was in 2005 42 yrs old with 17 yrs seniority came to 59.. Lost again. So now I buy my tix and fly Airtran and pay for an upgrade so I don't have to sweat the wait at the gate. So again be glad you still have the benefit even if you have to sit in the back.

So you think that a non-rev employees should get priority upgrades over ticket paying elites and loyal flyers? I find this hard to believe. While I admit non-rev is a great part of working for an airline and fully support it for employees, however they should never get priority over any type of paying customer, even if it is an elite upgrade. Should be happy that you've even made the flight.

I don't think that's what he's saying at all. Just stating a fact, which makes it more difficult to non-rev than it did before.

Exactly, I don't feel that we should be put up front before paying pax, im just saying now with the huge FF base its next to impossible to get up front. I didn't make it home several times over christmas (which generally when I have gone never had been a problem before) in mid February, end of February, etc. I got lucky to get home on the 30th of December when i went back.
