AC Toronto To Hong Kong Nonstop- What To Expect

Fri Apr 16, 2010 4:51 am

Hello, I am thinking of booking Air Canada direct flight from Toronto to Hong Kong. Can you tell me what kind of meal service I can expect? How many meals are served? Do they have a chinese option vs. a western option with their meals? what kind of snacks do they offer in between meals? How does AC compare to CX on this route?

Thanks very much for your input

I ended up on this flight last minute, and as I usually fly CX/OneWorld to HKG, I did not know what to expect. Indeed, I was not too happy about missing out on more good OW miles, but nonetheless was fairly happy with the Air Canada flight.

That being said, I did sleep most of the way, so my input should be taken with a grain of salt. The meals are decent, I felt they were better on the HKG-YYZ route rather than the YYZ-HKG route, but both were decent for economy class airline meals. I do believe there was an asian option as well as a western option, at least for lunch/dinner. You should get at least a lunch/dinner not long after takeoff, and a breakfast not long before arriving at your destination. Snacks are available in between...maybe a sandwich, I am not sure, I slept through that part!

The 777-200LR that they use is a beautiful plane. Pretty comfortable inside, good IFE system. In this way, I think Air Canada exceeds Cathay Pacific, especially if you end up on one of the Cathay 744s with the older seats. If I did not have such status (AA ExecPlat) with OneWorld, I might seriously consider AC for my future trips to HKG (I go about 4-5 times/year, plus more to the mainland of China) - I was happy with their product overall.

Meal choices are best "fixed" by stating preferences upon booking (or via callcenter) - This way, you won't have to "live" with the beef or...? choice...(or worse)

All CX 744s have now been refitted with the new seats. Also, HKG-YYZ flights are operated exclusively by the 77W, which are all equipped with new seats.

Ah, thank you. I always ended up on the "new" ones, so I never knew if there were any old ones around. Here I thought I was just getting lucky

AC shows 2 meals and a light snack in both directions between Eastern Canada and China (which would include HKG)
