Who Flies The Friendliest Skies?

Wed Apr 21, 2010 1:20 pm

AOL's Mystery Flyer goes undercover to find the friendliest flight attendants and the most helpful service. Follow her journey on Twitter.

No hot food, no pillows and blankets, and on some flights, no complimentary water. What's left? The one thing that can turn a long, meal-less coach flight from an ordeal to a joyride is...friendliness: helpful airline personnel and flight attendants with a positive attitude.

Over the next few weeks, I'll be traveling coast-to-coast on ten of our country's busiest airlines as AOL's Mystery Flyer. And I'll be looking to answer one really important question:

The airlines I will be flying are:

1. United Airlines
2. Continental Airlines
3. Delta Airlines
4. Southwest Airlines
5. JetBlue
6. AirTran
7. American Airlines
8. US Airways
9. Alaska Airlines
10. Spirit Airlines

http://news.travel.aol.com/2010/04/2...friendliest-skies/?ncid=webmaildl4

So who will get the best review ???
The opinions I post are of mine and mine alone, not of the airline I work for.

jetblue's staff is cheerful, fun, and friendly. VX is a close second.

with AA and UA, u kinda have to be flying F/J to get excellent service.

i always feel bad for the staff of US - they have to smile and remain friendly even though the unions absolutely can't get along with the boss.

I had some really helpful and good F/A's during my recent ORD-IAH-SJU-EWR-ORD flights...

Never flew on AS, but heard good things about them too...
don't throw away tomorrow !

You might want to add XE and ZW to your list. Some of those ladies running the whole show
on short-haul CRJ-200 and ERJ-145 flights do amazing work.

And a shout-out to the FAs doing SFO-BOS on UA -- that is one long, long, endless flight.

Rubbish try doing LGW-BJL, or even worse LGW-YYZ return, off duty outbound, work inbound, no night stop
= hell on earth.

Having said that, SFO-BOS is long, kind of like LGW-SSH which alot of airlines in the UK do, not nice.

In my experience, it's definitely Southwest. I have not flown JetBlue though, but have flown all of the others. In my experience, US Airways, United and Spirit are the worst.

You'd have to fly each airline dozens of times, in order to get a fair sample. And the regional affiliates, too. Not every airline's F/As are all equally friendly, and not all of them have good days everyday.

It is unfortunate that HA isn't on the list. Their FA's are amongst the most consistent and caring of the U.S. domestic carriers.

Exactly right. This bit has no validity. One person's subjective experiences in a flight or two doesn't paint a remotely accurate picture of reality.

Agree. It's almost impossible to obtain any kind of statistically-meaningful data based on one flight. I've had good and bad flights on every airline I've flown on. That's true for any service industry where you're dealing with human beings rather than machines.

Spirit. Spirit will definitely get the best reviews.

They're amazing. Everyone raves about them lately.

Exactly. Also depending upon your perspective you might find different results. I find BA's staff generally professional but know others that find that approach stuffy. The same way my father found VS's staff to be rather informal and unprofessional others find it friendly.

VX, B6, CO, WN and... (personal experience) once you make it to the cabin, NK FA's are quite friendly.
