My apologies for what turned out to be wrong information about flying between Cancun and Cozumel.
The reference to service being "suspended" applied to the original service operated by Mexicana, or one of their commuter affiliates. We subsequently found the service in our GDS as operated by MayAir as a code-share/Aeromexico Connect service. AM
apparently took over the route when MX
cancelled the service. I'm sorry I cannot explain the internet reference to "air service is suspended' which resulted in my answer. I took it one step further and called AM
to verify the service exists and operates daily. The agent was very pleasant, referenced people only fly as a connection off AM
flights to CUN
and when questioned if they were aware of reliability or operational issues, the agent commented "Senor, some flights do not operate." That can be a simple reference to an occasional cancellation or delay as I suspect this agent may not have daily contact with these flights or operations so I wouldn't be overly concerned as to reliability. When I asked him if he would fly on them he remarked "But yes of course."
Flights are scheduled daily, but fluctuate by day-of-week frequency. Aircraft are Shorts 360 or Dornier DO228's. We priced a one-way fare of $84.36 w/taxes USD and that fare was matched on the AM
website. The flights should afford a nice view of the islands/beaches and ocean - might be a bit bumpy due to high temperatures in summer - but a fun ride on either airplane with their high wings. I recommend you book on the AM
website and use a credit card for payment; if you encounter any operational or cancellation issues and don't fly, you can dispute the charge with your credit card company.
My apologies again for the confusion about the flights, and I hope you'll let us know what your final arrangements are to/from Cancun. I was just there last month.....had a great time in CZM
and Playa. Good Luck with your trip!
watch what you want. you may get it.
