Best Seat On The SAS MD82?

Mon Apr 26, 2010 4:19 pm

Hi guys, I'm hoping to fly the SK MD82 next weekend. What would be the best seat? I'm lookin for a view of the engine. Seatguru says the last two rows have their views blocked by the engines, so Im thinking of the third row in the back? Any suggestions are appreiciated.

Thanks,

Martijn

Martijn:
Row 32 has 2 windows....one a bit forward of the seat just after the bulkhead that will give you a view of the wing, particularly if you sit in the C seat. The 2nd window at 32A is right at the engine nacelle.....you'll see nothing but red paint. Row 33 is completely blocked by the engine.
Consider the A seat in row 26 and window in rows 30 or 31. A better view out, but very near (and dear for the sound) of the JT8D's. Row 26 would be my first choice, but 32 is still a decent seat "up close and personal" to those engines.
I hope you enjoy the ride,
Thomas

Exactly what I'm hoping for! Do you have any idea about row 31? Thanks for the advice!

I always thought that last row is the best "Engine Feel" seat on MD80s.

Martijn:
Row 31 is good for a view out at engine. It is almost parallel to row 32.....they're misaligned rows due to the rear galley placement. Don't go beyond row 31 on the DEF side, but 32AC has the two windows and engine view.
The very last row has limited legroom, does not recline and does not have a window....you definitely get max sound from the engines but not a desirable seat. And likely the F/A's may move you anyway since that is their favorite spot to drop in a quick break if flight time/service permits. A lot of times row 32 and 33 are blocked as they're considered the least desirable seats unless load factor requires they be opened up......usually on day of departure and by gate assignment only.
Grab 26A, 30F, 31F or 32A or C if they appear available on your seat map and SK permits advance seat selection.
I hope this helps, and that you get one of these "preferred" seats that only us airplane junkies would enjoy,
Thomas
