Assuming that we're only discussing present
liveries; my nod would be for YX
(Midwest) if it wasn't already gone.
My comments for other carriers.
: with the various animal tails, it's a little tough to pin down an all-out favorite. Kudos to them for using a color other than blue for the engine cowlings.
: like F9
, it depends on the tail. I'm not a big fan of the one that features only a partially-painted tail.
: the blue engine cowlings don't quite look right (should've been teal) and I personally would've wished that the rear, tri-colored swoosh was moved in front of the vertical fin and the front swoosh didn't exist. From head-on, the plane looks like it's frowning.
: Although I LUV the carrier, I'm not too crazy about their current scheme. The orange divider stripes and SOUTHWEST
lettering clash too much w/the Canyon Blue. They should've went w/white for the stripes and lettering. The blue also looks purple on many planes which makes the clashing effect even more hard on the eyes.
: Classic scheme for sure. My only suggestion would be either widen the fuselage stripes or give the lower body a different color for contrast. Either that or apply the dark reverse
scheme across the board.
: Although a classic scheme for sure, the grey vertical fin looks a bit disjointed/out of place on some models (the MD
-80). The bare metal fin looked a lot better. I realize that a bare metal fin may no longer be possible w/newer models.
: While classy, I would've made the thin gold stripe between the white top/grey bottom fuselage wider. When I first saw this scheme in the early 90s, I thought... "Did they copy Luthansa?"
: What I have referred to as Doug Parker's rip-off
in that the layout looks too similar to US' scheme. I would've preferred to see the red widget on the vertical fin oriented in the same manner that the Classic Widget was during the 60s-mid 90s.
: Very classy. My only suggestion would be to expand the multi-colored flower motif up to just behind the wing.
: Not very original. The logo on the vertical fin looks like it was a rip-off from the Screen Gems
. Either that or it resembles a hurricane symbol.
: Not a bad scheme at all. I liked the pixeled blue effect towards the lower part of the fuselage; but I would've opted for a red divider stripe between the blue and white (a touch of retro from the mid-70s scheme).
US: Not a bad scheme either. Fairly no nonsense w/some light-grey swoosh
contrast towards the rear of the fuselage. Although the grey swooshes are a bit too dark on some of the Express regional aircraft.
Lastly, the recently-unveiled merged CO
/UA logo looks a tacky.
