Passport To The Black Experience

Tue Jun 01, 2010 10:05 pm

http://blackatlas.com/

American Airlines has a website specifically geared towards African American travelers called the Black Atlas -

At first, I totally thought this was a joke - but it seems that this is for reals! I'm not exactly sure what to think about it, I've never seen anyone attempt this!

Thoughts?

It's real, for sure. I'm surprised someone has not caused a row about it, tough.

Don't airline and travel companies have websites towards all sorts of targeted groups? e.g. orbitz.com/gay

I think its great. I watched the video and spent some time browsing the site. I think they should make the choosing a destination part of the blackpassport site part of AA.com, it was pretty neat. I don't think there is any reason for anyone to be offended by it. Congrats to AA .

What's the big deal? There are travel sights for singles, religious groups, gays and probably hundreds of other people with certain affiliations.

They sure do. DL even has a gay music channel on their IFE.

Every year a black organization prints a "Black Pages" telephone book in St. Louis. It is all types of black owned local businesses. My parents, who are white, use it from time to time because they know the business people listed are locally owned and they like to spend their money in town.
