Speedy Pond Hopping!

Tue Jun 29, 2010 6:44 pm

A few weeks ago i flew on G-YMMF routing TPA-LGW in under 6h40!!!
What an a/c the 777 is, its the quickest i been across the pond from FLorida.
I know strong tail winds had a part to play but is this considered an unusually quick
flight or normal??
I been on quick 6 hour hops on JFK-LHR sectors before.
What is the quickest pond hop anyone has ever done EXCLUDING CONCORDE??

I think this thread might be better suited for the Polls/preferences-forum.

Anyway, I'll throw mine into the ring: DTW-AMS in 6 hrs flat on an NW 747-400 back in '00. Tailwinds did the trick on that one...

Sure, we're concerned for our lives. Just not as concerned as saving 9 bucks on a roundtrip to Ft. Myers.

The quickest TATL crossing I have done is JFK-LHR in 5 hours and 59 minutes (AA 777-200). It has taken me longer to get from PHX to Hawaii.

About 35 minutes, from Corvo to Horta in the Azores on a D228. If you're classing the North Atlantic Ridge as the definition of flying from one side to the other that is

Other that that, my quickest crossing was DTW-AMS in 7h 10 mins onboard a Northwest A333. Also my fastest average speed at 549mph.
