DL 757 Across Atlantic, PTV?

Mon Jul 05, 2010 6:02 am

HI,
I'll be flying in 3 days from Zurich to JFK on DL 207, operated by a B757.
What's the inflight entertainement like? Are there any PTV? I tried to look at Delta's webpage but coudn't find anything for this flight.
Thanks!

DL 757 Across Atlantic, PTV?

Mon Jul 05, 2010 6:36 am

Depends on the day.

Looking at DL.com it looks like:

Tues 7/6 is a 75E
Weds 7/7 is a 75A
Thurs 7/8 is a 75A
Fri 7/9 is a 75A
Sat 7/10 is a 75E

75E has PTVs at all seats.
75A has overheads only...
Some see lines, others see between the lines.

Those are AVOD by the way.

That's odd. The 75Es are the only planes capable of flying TATL flights. The 75As can't legally fly across the Atlantic.

The 75Es are the ex-TWA aircraft certified with ETOPS.

What about the ex-NW birds? I don't think that those are the 75As (I thought those were the ex-ATA planes), but there are some ex-NW planes that are able to fly across the pond.

I forgot about those! The ones that can fly trans-Atlantic/Pacific flights are some of the 5600-series 757s, which are newer than the 5500-series aircraft. I'm not sure what the story is with those regarding the interior, though.

Are DL upgrading the other 752s so they all have PTVs or are they just leaving them as is? If so, is there a date set for their completion?

Yes 75A can do TATL flights. Delta has 8 75As, which are ex NW ETOPS birds. (read below)

those would be 75Vs, but they are also ETOPS and *could* do TATL flights.

Ok so here is a Delta 757-200 key. Codes are what Delta uses.

757- 24F/162Y. CRTs. D Domestic
75X- 26F/158Y. PTVs. D Domestic/TCONs
75E- 16F/158Y. PTVs. D ETOPS/TATL and JFK-SFO/LAX
75V- 22F/156Y. CRTs. D ETOPS/Hawaii.
75N-22F/160Y. None N Domestic
756-22F/162Y. None N Domestic
75J-20F/162Y. None N ETOPS/Hawaii/intra-Asia
75A-6F/144Y. CRTs in Y and PTVs in C ETOPS. TATL/intra-Asia

If it has a D it was a DAL-S bird and if it has N it was a DAL-N bird.

Any idea of how many of each type there are? Sounds like there must be a lot of those old NWA birds in desperate need of some IFE!
