CRJ 700/900 Vs E-Jets

Tue Jul 06, 2010 5:25 am

OK here goes. I have personally flown the CR2, CR7 and the CR9 as well as the E170 and E175. To me the E-Jets seem to fly and feel more like a mainline jet.

So here is my question. I'd like to know your preference of the above mentioned aircraft only.
A/C Flown: CR1, CR2, CR7, CR9, B727, B732, B733, B735, B752, B762, B764, SF3, EM2, D95, M88

I always thought the E-jets had a rougher ride, but, as you mentioned, a bigger feel. When all is said and done.......757

Although I've yet to ride on a CR7 or CR9, I couldn't agree more with the latter part of your statement

My personal favourite is the CRJ900 (hence my username  ). I have flown the CRJ900 with LH Cityline and AC Jazz (they call it CRJ705) and I find the "living space" when sitting in the seat just as good (or bad) as when flying a B737.

I'm 5ft11 and weigh 200lbs and fit very well into an airline seat that is 17" wide. After being an A.netter for many years, I find that 99% of complaints about the CRJ comes from Americans, most of them apparently portly sized - which makes most arline seats too small anyway. Europeans appear to be content with flying on the CRJs...

I have yet to try the E-jets, but those I know who have flown on them said they are "quite comfy but very boring aircraft".
Come, fly the prevailing winds with me

I like that plane too....especially if I got moved up front and get a single seat on the left side.
I have only been on three E-170-/175's. I'm still evaluating that one, Y class that is.

Well I'm 6'4, 175 lbs. I can fit into the seat of most airlines with a 30" to 31" pitch without any issue. But the CRJ-200 is the only plane where I select the aisle seat if available because I find it so cramped and awful. The CRJ-700s and the CRJ-900s are a comfortable ride and I don't mind the window seat on those. But the 50 seaters are awful and I avoid them whenever I can.

Now as for E-Jets, they are a very nice ride. Both the ERJ-135/140/145 series and the EMB-170/175/190/195 are nice rides. I will go out of my way to fly on an ERJ-145 if its feasible and if the single-seat side is available and prefer that over many mainline jets.

Although I like the look of the CRJ700 and 900, I much prefer to ride the E-Jets. The E170/175/190/195 are no comparison to the CRJ series. A significant improvement in comfort and ride. I dislike the CRJ700/900 due to misaligned windows and my experience with very uncomfortable seating on Mesa's CRJ900's operating with USExpress.
I found all these aircraft to be stable in flight; however, the E170/175/190/195 may be a bit louder due to engine placement.

Firstly the fifty seaters: CRJ200 any day! The ERJ145 always feels a little too cramped in its 3 abreast configuration, and I've never quite got my head around the fact that the aisle is lower than the seats (I'm am VERY clumsy, so this cathes me unawares!!!)

For the 70 seaters I would probably say the EMB170. While I like the CRJ700 the EJet feels more like a "real" airliner and is actually quite a nice aircraft. Also border through a jetway is a bonus.

I've never flown the CRJ900, but REALLY don't like the EMB190. I couldn't put my finger on what it is, I just don't. I've only ever flown on Virgin Blue's EMB190s, but it can't just be the airline because I happen to like DJ and also I've only ever flown on DJ EMB170s, which I do like. It may sound weird but I just strongly dislike them.

About 90% of my flying is BNE-CBR, and I therefore have two choices: Qantas 734 (with the occasional 738 subbed in) or Virgin Blue EMB190 (with the odd EMB170 thrown into the mix). I would choose the 20 year old 734 over the virtually brand new EMB190 any day! However I would never say the same about the EMB170, which I might even choose over the 738. Incidentally the type of plane doesn't guide my airline decisions (I pretty much always fly QF regardless), but I just have an aversion to the EMB190!

I've never flown on the 170/175 myself, but perhaps your discomfort had something to do with where you were sitting on the aircraft? Though I personally love it, a lot of people are not huge fans of sitting toward the rear of an E190; the turbulence (however mild) can be quite uncomfortable due to the distance from the aircraft's CG... other than that, I'm at a loss..especially since both aircraft share the same fuselage cross-section. Couldn't have been the seats themselves, or the aisle.
