Airports With/Without Body Scanners

Sun Jul 11, 2010 11:44 am

Please feel free to update the list with any new information you have especially regarding non-US airports.
Thank you very much in advance.

Airports WITH body scanners:

ABQ (Lane 7, on the far right side of the checkpoint when facing it. Use lane 1-6)
ATL
BWI (A,B,D concourse no way to avoid them but not primary)
CLE (Concourse A no scanners. Concourse B two scanners; TSA tells you where to go or not. Concourse C lanes 6&7 have scanners; can be avoided by choosing other lane.)
DCA (are they still there?)
DEN
DFW (only Terminal D, checkpoints 18&22)
DTW
IAH (Terminal E but you get choice of lanes)
IND (both A and B concourse on checkpoint 3, choice of lanes with no scanner)
JAX (1 scanner, avoid if taking the TSA line to the left, the two lanes on the right funnel to the scanner)
JFK (not on the TSA list but somebody mentioned it)
LAS (That new A/B/C checkpoint upstairs has it. Not primary. The old C checkpoint by the train does not have it.)
LAX (T5 checkpoint - DL/NW concourse+AeroMexico. Use T6 instead and take underground tunnel to T5)
MIA
PHX (only in checkpoint B & D at terminal 4--not primary at the D checkpoint. I don't think I've even seen it to be honest.)
RDU (only in T2 and not as primary)
ROC (apparently not yet in operation but machine is there)
RIC
SFO (In international terminal, primary but optional. None at T1 Gates 20-36, domestic.)
SLC (T2 (DL) but not T1)
TPA (Airside A and Airside E checkpoint - AC/DL/NW/UA)
TUL

Airports WITHOUT Bodyscanners:

AUS
BUF
CLT
ELP
EWR
FLL
GEG
HNL
ICT
JFK in DL terminal 2/3.
LAX (T1 WN/US, T3 AS/VX)
MCI
MCO
MSP
MSY
OAK
OKC
OMA
ONT
ORD (not on the TSA list, T1 definitely clear)
PDX
SJC
SEA
SYR
TUS
There was a better way to fly it was called Concorde

I went through one in T3 about 10 days ago, so I can tell you that ORD has at least one. I just happened to end up in the lane with one.

I have indeed since found lots of naked pictures of myself on the Internet.

In CLT, there is one at the D/E checkpoint. Unsure if there are others since that is the only checkpoint I ever use.

Remember in the US you can opt out from the screening and intrusion involved with the body-image scanners and instead opt have a physical pat down performed.

Non-US Airport

YYJ (Victoria, BC, Canada). We just got ours installed this week. It was up and running yesterday, but I haven't had a chance to go through it yet.

Also, does anyone know which particular ones use millimeter wave technology and which particular ones use backscatter x-ray technology? I know the one at ABQ is an L-3 ProVision millimeter wave scanner.

I really could give a damn if I have to go through a body scanner or not...so I didn't really mind.

On my two most recent trips (May and June of this year) I saw the following

LAX T1, T6 - no machines

DCA Terminal A - no machines

RSW - no machines

ATL - machine in place

YYZ - machine in place (T1)
Flying in the middle seat of coach is much better than not flying at all!

I think most major Canadian airports have them now. The government ordered 44 scanners in January and said they would be in use at 11 airports within a couple of months. Also found news items from YVR, YWG and YUL dated February saying they were in use.I believe they are initially being used only for passengers to the US who are selected for secondary screening.

Canada is using the millimeter wave system.

CMH has at least one, but I don't know if it's operational yet. Thought I saw it at Concourse C.

Anyone know if any airports in Australia are getting them? I have flown in and out of MEL, BNE, SYD, ADL several times this year, both international and domestic terminals, and yet to see these body scanners in place anywhere here...

Just a little update, ABQ now has the L-3 ProVision millimeter wave scanners in ALL lanes, as I saw from my return trip from Puerto Rico yesterday.

OMA

OMA is getting its first one this month (or it may already have it) for the checkpoint at terminal A/south. B/north will eventually get one, but for now they're just usng metal detectors.

BTW, SJU Terminal B does not have body scanners yet, however, I am not sure about the other terminals. Probably the new Terminal A will have them though.
