Who Do You Book Your Hotels Online With?

Sun Jul 18, 2010 2:15 pm

Just wondering what are the most popular websites for great rates for 4 Star hotels? Any experiences of good companies that offer good rates and reliability.

I always book with hotels.com, never had any troubles and the website is userfriendly. Not before checking tripadvisor.com though!

travelsupermarket.com is great as it compares many of the online booking agents in one go. My usual favourite is TravelRepublic.com however....

hotels.com and expedia.com (going through a cashback site such as rpoints - PM me for a link as we both get a bonus for referrals). Alternatively direct to the hotel.

I use to do the same as well. Checking tripadvisor.com is a good tool to see if the place you're about to go is crap or it's really worth it. The only problem I reckon with tripadvisor is that, if by mistake you don't load its webpage in English, it'll keep on translating feedbacks with babelfish. Which is fun for about two seconds, and then it's plainly annoying.

1) I go to www.booking.com
2) The results I "filter" with www.tripadvisor.com
3) I check the website of the hotel in question if they have an even better offer on sale (happens sometimes)

4) Depending on the result of 3) I book at the hotel website or at booking.com

I use Hotwire.com for every hotel I book. It hides the name until you pay for it. The only thing I'm after is price and also within the area I want to be in.

This is exactly what I do, including an around the world trip I just got back from. Happy with what I got and the prices I paid.

Most often I go for refundable rates, so in case I am not using the hotel's / hotel chain's own website, I am using broker hrs.de .

When I travel anywhere in Mexico and the rest of Latin America, I book directly with the hotel and save all e-mail correspondence. In the USA is usually stay at La Quinta, and am a member of their awards program. I prefer to book directly with air, hotel and car companies.

If you use booking.com, be sure to calculate taxes and fees yourself, before you pay. I booked a hotel with them for this august, and got a final total price, entered my credit card and paid. When i checked my bank statement a little later, i found that they had deducted 1000NOK - 150USD extra, on top of the total they gave me. After i found out the taxes in the city i stayed in, i found out that it was equal to that amount.

Yes, i know they state that fees and taxes are not included, but i thought websites were required to list the actual total before you actually press "pay"

I've used hotels.com in the past, and will probably go back to using them after this.

Always book with expedia.com. Always check tripadvisor before finalising. I had had problems before with hotels.com, and expedia has always been good about refunding for cancellations, including last minute.

Try HRS.com, they offer similar rates to lastminute or expedia.com, but more often, their rates are refundable.

For cheap deals, try www.accorhotels.com, Novotel has expanded quite a lot and they have some great prices, they offer high level of consistency across the board, too.

Hope this helps

If my parents ever have me book a hotel, I always book directly though Marriott.com or Starwoodhotels.com .

Always book online with the hotel website.

The majority of the time, that's what I do as well, as the only place I go where I need to book a room is Las Vegas and I have many options due to being a member of a number of casino players clubs and get room rate offers that are only for players club members. In addition, being a fan of a particular hotel on Facebook or following them on Twitter can also get you special room rate offers as well. A week before my last Vegas trip, I actually changed hotels because of an offer that was posted on the FB page of another Vegas hotel I'm a fan of.

I've booked a hotel room via a travel site three times. The first time was my very first trip to Vegas and just did what I thought was the easiest and cheapest way. The second time, I decided to change hotels several weeks before a trip and the hotel I was looking at booking didn't have any rooms according to their own site, but I was able to get a room there via Travelocity. I just recently booked my next Vegas trip via Orbitz as a package deal (flight + room) because it was cheaper than booking separately or even through Delta Vacations or as a package deal through the hotel.
