Best Economy Class

Fri Jul 23, 2010 8:38 pm

Hi guys

I know all the Skytrax ratings but what do you think is the best economy class and why ( doesn't matter short or long haul)

My favorite is the new SQ one

Best Longhaul I would say SQ or EY . Best European Y class would be for me Olympic Air and Turkish Airlines.

Best BOB/LCC European product would be Aer Lingus .

Best regional: Air Nostrum
Best Low Cost: Air Southwest
Best Full Service: Northwest Airlines (now Delta)

I have high expectations of Qatar Airways though, who I will fly soon.

Best LH: Etihad. I couldn't exactly put my finger on what it is but they were undoubtedly the best. They're on board catering was outstanding for economy, I just wish they used EK's ICE system! Their IFE is IMHO what let's them down, and flying 24 hours from Australia to the UK is an important factor.

Best SH: Qantas. I honestly cannot think off any other airline where you still get full meal service (including complimentary wine and beer with dinner) on a 1 hour flight! Perhaps on the likes of SQ SIN-BKK and EK DXB-DOH but certainly not in Europe/North America.

Best LCC: Virgin Blue. I honestly cannot fault DJ at all other than (in my personal experience) their time keeping being pretty lousy (6 out of 9 flights delayed by over an hour, including an 8 hour delay at CBR - which is TINY!)

SQ's new Y class product is good, but I still prefer EK's latest and WY's A330 Y class products.

Currently IMHO NZ has the best Y on its B777/747/767/A320 fleet. Best Y+ is NZ and best J is NZ on its B777 and B744 fleet.

Really can't wait to see NZs new Y and Y+ product on its new B77W fleet with couches in Y and business class/first class style pods in Y+
