Rarest Aircraft At Your Home Airport

Sat Aug 07, 2010 3:25 am

I am interested to see what aircrafts are uncommon at your home airport. We shall limit it to passenger jets that are "common" elsewhere but not common at your home airport, such as Airbus, Boeing and CRJs.

For my home airport SIN:

All CRJs

Airbus A340-300 - I might be wrong, but LH and MU should be the only operators to SIN from MUC and PVG respectively.

Airbus A340-600 - LH used to operate them on their MUC-SIN route but now it has become A343. TG uses them occasionally on the BKK-SIN route but it has been missing for a while too.

Boeing 717-200 - Not a very common airplane in most airports too. The nearest operator to SIN is PG (Bangkok Airways) but they fly the Airbus A320-200 to SIN.

Boeing 757 (All series) - I don't think any airlines operate this to SIN as of now? Please correct me if I'm wrong!

Boeing 777-200LR - Only DL operates this a/c on the NRT-SIN route.
One day I will fly around the world!

For Brisbane sticking to aircraft common in other parts of the world

CRJ - No CRJ's last CRJ operator was Kendell Airlines with CRJ200's from 1999-2001
ERJ - No ERJ's either last operator was Skyairworld with a pair of ERJ145's from 2007-2009.
747 - QF fly them on the BNE-LAX which appears to have gone down to 5 weekly NZ also fly a 747 on a weekly AKL-BNE rotation. but a few years ago QF flew them to SIN/MNL/LAX/AKL/SYD, JL had 2 daily 747's, TG and MH both had 747's flights and on some days there were more then one NZ 747's in BNE at once.
757 - No flights whatsoever until about 12 months ago when Air Niugini started flying them here nowadays it is one weekly POM-BNE-SYD-POM flight which passes through on Sunday afternoon.

SNA- anything larger than a 757- except one of the cargo operators. but we do make up for the lack of large jets with lots of Biz Jets.

LAX- we don't get Fokker's or British built aircraft, only American (Boeing, Douglas (yes, the old Douglas) and McDonald-Douglas) and European (Airbus) built with the rare (really rare) Russian jet.

CRQ- we get G-550s at the biggest size wise, EMB-120 is the largest commercial jet- but apparently we might get EMB-170/5.

An EMB-120 is not a jet, but a twin engine turbo-prop.

PHX - 747s (only the 6x weekly BA flight) and 777s. Embraer jets are relatively rare, CO Express has the 145 and Midwest has a 190, but that's it. Great Lakes does have a few EMB-120s, but they're not jets.

Currently MDW is lacking anything larger than an A319/73G on a regular basis. Occasionally DL's 319s to ATL have gotten a random sub with a 320, 73G, 738, MD80, or MD90. We haven't had any ERJs since CO left in 08 although they'll be coming back when BransonAir starts (however long that may last). We do however get regular E75s, CR2s, Q400s, and a single daily CR9.

For AKL

717s None never any scheduled
727s DHL Soon to be replaced
747s Other than NZ just a weekly FJ on the PAX side, CX may bring them back in summer, SQ 744F 2 weekly Atlas for QF weekly CV pulling their remaining flight in a few weeks.
757s none, very few have ever been scheduled
767s other than NZ just a few weekly FJ, QF do use them on Freighter flights at night along with the ATI leased 762, BI replacing them soon
777s heaps of 77Es and 77Ws no 773As or 77Ls currently never any scheduled 772As.
A300 none
A310 none
A333 none currently
A332 QF 2 daily and SB 1 weekly
A342 just AR
A345 just EK daily to be replaced by a 77W
A346 none currently
A380 just EK daily
MD11 none

No CRJs or ERJs.

Plenty of A320s and 737s!!! Most types like 767s and 777s are very common. A343s are common with several airlines flying them here.

We get a reasonable spread really with NZ dominating with types like 763s and plenty of carriers bringing in 777s.

Hopefully we will see the E170's with CPA soon, it will be nice to have more service out of CLD/CRQ

As for SAN wasn't there a 747SP once from Saudi Airlines?

Here in NYC, I guess any Russian-built aircraft could be considered rare, as well as oldies like 737-200s and the like.

Up in ROC (where I go to school), every night we get a Capital Cargo 727-200 that flies BDL-ROC-TOL-CVG and did the return the following morning. That was as of April... I haven't checked if anything's changed recently. Also, time to time we get a DC-8-73 I think (whichever is the one with the CFMs and operated by Astar).

At MSP, the only ones that jump out are A340s and 777s. We have 717s from AirTran, 727s from FedEx, 737s from Delta/Continental/Southwest/more, 747s from Delta, 757s from Delta, 767s from Delta/UPS, A300 from FedEx, A310 from FedEx, A318 from Frontier, A319 from DL/F9/US/UA, A320 from DL/US/UA, A321 from US, A330 from DL, MD-80 from DL/AA, MD-90 from DL, DC-10 from FedEx, MD-11 from UPS, CRJ-200/700/900 from DL (and more), ERJ-145 from DL, E-170 from UA, 175 from US/DL, 190 from US. Not horrible up here.

It would be easier to say what we DO have here in CBR and then you can discount everything else!

734, 73G, 738
E70, E90
occasional 763
J41
Swearingon Metro

I guess conversely the Metro is fairly common here but rare everywhere else (except ABX which is where FQ mostly send them to from CBR)

At LHR, we still get the odd 727, 732, 747SP, A300/A310 and until the ban, we had a 741 as a regular visitor in Iran Air colours.

IIRC YX/F9 are airbus or E90s.
DCI is all CRJ/CR7/CR9
UAX is all CRJ/CR7
USX is CR9 IIRC....

DUB

No scheduled 717s, 727s, 747s, A340s, A380s, MD11s

Odd AF Cargo 777, but I think it's ending soon

Some Bulgarian Antonovs

Some old A300s of DHL & Fedex

Think only CRJ's of Cimber Air

Only MD-87s, 735s, 736s of SAS

US 762s

DL 764s

TS A310s

ERJs of Luxair

Of course I miss everything interesting anyway!

For Tampa,

The rarest aircraft is the BA 777 that comes in a few time a week, besides that its mostly single aisle aircraft.

For NWI -
ignoring aircraft that never visit, I'd say the rarest is the 737! About 2 or 3 per week on sunshine tourist charters.
Most common are the F100s of KLM, the Dash8s of Flybe (several each per day), and the daily ERJ of bmi and Saab of Eastern Airways.

At SMF:

No regularly scheduled 777, 747, A330 or A340, though there is the occasional diversion from SFO.

Surprisingly few 50 seaters considering how common they are elsewhere. There's a CRJ flight from LAX on UAx, and maybe a CRJ to SLC on DL Conection. I don't think anyone flies the ERJ here anymore since ExpressJet ended their branded operation. Other than that the rest of the RJ flights here are CR7s or bigger.

Here at SEA

ERJ-135/140/145 Delta Connection ran them for a time to LAX, but I believe no longer.

A340 used to have at least 1 if not 2 per day SK and CI. now its a rare equipment sub for Air France (like today! 8/9/2010) or Lufthansa

717 Midwest and possibly Airtran even at one point, but no more.

Otherwise just about everything else is a once a day visitor.

I should have looked at the schedules before I said that. There are actually a higher percentage of CRJs on those routes than I'd remembered. 3 of the SMF-LAX flights are on CRJs, as are 3 of the flights to SLC. Still, as far as I know those are the only 2 routes that see 50 seat CRJs, so it's still not many compared to other airports. As I said other routs with RJs get CR7s or bigger.

Also would add the A340 to PHX's list. Delta sends the A330s from time to time. The 767, while not exactly rare, is not common here as the only one PHX regularly gets is the Hawaiian 763 and the UPS 76F. Does ABX / DHL still fly their 762s here?

Anything mainline here at GSO. One MD-88 from DL and a few Allegiant flights are it (besides what's going to TIMCO on the other side of the airfield).

For PIT, the rarest aircraft we get here is the Southern Air 747-200/300F that comes in once a month or so.

In ANC, we're lookin at primarily 747s flyin cargo for EVA and other Asian airilnes. There's also a healthy supply of AS 737s. FedEx operates a few MD-11s here too.

There's also a steady stream of Dash8's and Cessna 208s that shuttle people between ANC and ENA (30 min flight, 3 hour drive).

Last winter ANC had an AN224 visit. There's also the occasional charter 732.

Besides that, its just the usual suspects from the usual airlines flying to their respective hubs.

Forgot to add, the ATR72, the only prop we now get in Heathrow. An odd flight, once a day round trip on Air France.

Here at YVR, we actually get most types.

Conspicuous absentees are E135/145's. We no longer get MD80's (used to have AA & AS + Midwest hockey charters + DL MD90 on the lunch time SLC run) and have never seen a 717 here.

Interestingly we were one of the first airports to see the A380 on its round the world proving flights, though there are no plans for a scheduled operator to bring one here.

Some rare birds we do see daily are CV580's, 727F's, 732's, DC10's, SH360's + HS748's in summer and we get the KL MD11. And of course we get tons of DHC Beaver's & Otter's.

#1 aircraft probably has to be the Dash 8 with all the Jazz movements.
