Flying On A Tupolev 154 In 2010?

As my username suggests, I am quite a fan of the ol' T154. Now S7 and Aeroflot have retired theirs from service I am having trouble finding a way to travel on one before they disappear for good.

I'm looking for some insipration as coming across routes that use the 154 are proving difficult to come by. I was thinking Belavia out of Minsk however their website doesn't seem to work anymore. Other than that, there's Ural, Atlant Soyuz, UT Air and Yakutia.

Any tips or info on getting one of these classics before it's too late?

Hi TU154

I am currently in the final stages of planning a trip to Russia in September to fly IL86, YAK 40, YAK 42, TU134, TU 204 and TU154.

The TU 154 is still the easiest of all types and should be around for a bit longer.

Safest bet is currently KMV and a daytrip from Moscow to MRV. In worst case you end up on a TU204 instead but no danger of Airbus or Boeing. Though the TU204 tend to fly the holiday routes to AER and abroad.

Donavia flies TU154 to MRV for Aeroflot as well. But there the days are numbered and the chance of ending up on a B737 is higher.

Another safe option is Alrosa. Until September they will from VKO to Anapa with reasonable fares.

UT Air still has a large fleet and uses the TU154 on numerous routes. They are a good bet for TU134 too. But they will get more and more B735 and CRJ.

That sounds like my kind of trip! How much is that costing you and how long are you going for?

My biggest issue is navigating websites like KMV's and UTair's, amongst others. I wish I had the money to do several aircraft all in one trip. If only I was 10 years older it'd be so much easier to get on these rare types!

I did VKO-MRV-SVO earlier this year, both a safe bet on Tu-154Ms, but fairly expensive. LED-VKO on UTair was about £50 IIRC and also a safe bet. UTair doesn't have a Tu-154 replacement yet and theirs are quite recent models - the 737-500 is too great a drop in capacity.

I managed to navigate KMV's and book online fairly easily, things I didn't know I translated line by line with Google Translator - that way I got a special web fare too which was cheaper. Donavia you can book through SU's site, and UTair pretty cheaply via eBookers.

SIP used to be a safe bet for a Tu-154 to Moscow, enabling you to transit on to another destination without a visa, but it appears this year SU aren't running them - or at least their affiliates aren't. You can try all the other summer sun destinations, as that would save you a lot of money and hassle getting a visa. Another option would be to go to Azerbaijan, but that's expensive, as are the internal flights there on Tu-154, although they are an amazing experience.

Hi
im leaving 11th september and will base me 6 days in Moscow flying every day return flights with russian aircraft,even if 3 flights are sadly with western aircraft
So its very easy to book russian aircraft
