12 Hours In PPT

Sun Aug 08, 2010 5:06 pm

Hi, In October I am taking a cruise through the French Polynesia area...after the cruise we leave the ship at 10am, drive to PPT and have until 11pm until out flight out.

Does anyone know if there is much to do to kill time? How far is the airport from town? Is there a bus / shuttle? I was thinking of going into town for lunch and at least kill 4 or 5 hours.

Any ideas would be great! Thanks!

I've never been there but this site:

suggests that the airport is close to town, with a bus running every 15 mins.

It's big a long time since I was in Papeete (1987!), but if I remember correctly it is fairly easy to hire a tour guide at a fairly reasonable cost and get a guided tour of the island. Alternately, there are quite a few hotels near the airport. You may be able to pay for use of a day room and then have access to the pool and other facilities. Might be worth the cost.

Thank you, I'll ask the local guide when we get there what hotels near the airport have a day room rate.

Papeete has a most wonderful market. Don't miss it by any means.

You can eat there. A lot of wonderful fresh local food.

Such a colourful market with many wonderful stalls.
You will love it!
