3 Hr Layover In FLL -- Suggestions?

Thu Aug 12, 2010 11:29 pm

Hello Everyone,
In a couple weeks I'm going to be in FLL for just over 3 hours on a very round-about flight from BUF to YEG (through CLE, FLL, and IAH). I'm arriving just before noon on CO from CLE, and I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for lunch in any of the terminals (pre-security of course).

Also, are there any good spots for photography in the terminal area? I'd rather not venture too far out. If there are any other fun things to do while I'm waiting I'd be interested too, as I'll be checked through the entire trip, but I'd really like to get some shots of airlines we don't see much up here north of the border.

Finally, are the two concourses of T1 connected behind security or will I be limited to CO's side?

Jon

Much luggage? Take a taxi to Las Olas Blvd. and have lunch at a sidewalk cafe and a stroll through this very hip and chic shopping area. Airport about 3 miles away, but not sure the Tri-Rail services will offer timely train/rail services to Las Olas. With tip, plan about $15-20 for the taxi but worth trip. Beach area a bit too far.
watch what you want. you may get it.

FLL is not the best place to have a long layover the airport does not offer much.
I think there is a good spotting area on top of a parking garage. But it will be a bit hot.

I only made a beeline to T4 from T3, but T3 appears to have a nicely set-up Mexican canteena-themed food & shop area landside.

I think T3 is the terminal with the most stuff before security. And yes there is nothing to see at T4 unless you want to see the worst and most congested international terminal in the US.

Take a taxi, get a Cubano sandwich from the gas station that is at SE 17th and Highway 1 then go to the aircraft viewing park and watch the action. Damn I miss those days! Nothing like spending $7000 for a quarter of photography at AIFL and spending all my class room time at the aircraft viewing area.

Thanks for the ideas everyone. I think I might make a trip over to Las Olas Blvd then and maybe a stop up on the garage. A trip report should be in the making as well.

I recommend going stand-by for an earlier flight to IAH.
