UA Widebody Domestic Question

Tue Aug 31, 2010 2:16 pm

I've got 2 kids running and screaming around the house so I don't have a lot of time to look this up, but simple question, what routes is UA running it's widebodies on here in the US for the rest of the year? Rumor has it we're getting jumpseat privilages back here very shortly (I've seen the draft written) and I'm trying to plan a trip

UA has widebodies scheduled on most hub-hub routes, but I think the best one in the schedule currently is UA664/973 SFO-ORD-SFO turn with the 747-400. The aircraft 'dedicated' to this route is the only non-refurbished 747 in the fleet, but it's still a great ride for the ~4h trip and a nice blast from the not-so-distant past.

Your going to find them scheduled on basically any intra-hub routes (except usually LAX-SFO) as well as Mainland to Hawaii...they also sub on occasion to other cities but thats not something that you can plan for this far out.
I know the voices in my head aren't real but sometimes their ideas are just awesome!!!

while we're at it, what are your guesses for post-merger UA/CO domestic widebody usages ?

CO has been trying to max out EWR with loads of 738, 739, and 753. Having some extra 763 will definitely help the situation. Also, they may also have extra 752 to send to tertiary European destinations from EWR.

I wonder if it makes sense for new UA/CO to explore secondary Asian destinations from SFO using 762, 763, and new 787s ? how about something crazy like SFO-HGH, SFO-CTS, or even SFO-PUS ?

CO's 767s are suboptimal for Asia service. The 764 doesn't have long enough legs and the 762 has high costs with too few seats to spread them over. UA's 763ER is more realistic, but only puts Japan in play for purposes of expansion. However, you can bank on secondary Asia routes with the 787, especially increased service to China.

I'm booked on the UA IAD-LAX 763 flight in just over a week. Looking forward to having widebody service on a domestic flight.
I want to live in an old and converted 727...

That flight used to be a 777 I do believe.

In regards to that UA 747, does anyone know how long its running?

According to my United PC TravelDesk, its still flying both directions through November 3. But then again it may have changed since I downloaded the update 3 weeks ago.

And it's not always the old config- I flew 54/973 a few 2 weeks ago and both planes had the new premium cabins.
