BA - Booking Flight With Cc For Other Travellers

Fri Sep 03, 2010 8:48 am

Hi,
i already looked through every bit of information I could find on the BA website but I didn't find what I was looking for.

Thing is, my parents are about to travel to the states next year and I want to buy the tickets for them with British Airways. I flew with them last year and was asked - upon check-in - to show my credit card I booked the flights with.

So let's pretend I book the flights for my parents with their names and address and all that but use MY cc to pay for the tickets, what's going to happen upon check-in when none of them has my cc with them?

Is it possible at all to do something like that? Is there some kind of option you can check like "The person who pays for the tickets is not the one who's actually travelling"? I don't want them to be stuck at the airport just because I paid the tickets and they don't have my cc.

So what about this?! Can someone shed light on this one?

It's been over a year that I booked a flight with BA so I just don't know which options were present in the booking process.

There is a box on the checkout page of BA.com that allows you to say "Is the person paying travelling?".

if you pay for them and you aren;t travelling there is no credit card swipe required at check in, as you tick the box when booking saying you are not travelling.... If they pay by their own card and travel then they will be asked to present their payment card at check in.

Could someone explain the reasons for showing the cc at check-in? As one could indicate not traveling and then he wouldn't be required to give the cc at check in.

Maybe they go through a different pre authorisation system, not sure.

The credit card is just another form of identification. On the contrary, if you didn't need to present one, other forms would be needed.
