Any Delta Domestic Flights For These Types?

Sun Sep 05, 2010 5:11 pm

I need to complete my list of having flown on every type of DL widebody, since '71 and I still need the 777L, A330-200/300 and 744.

I wondered if DL was operating any of these types, domestically, perhaps as tags to int'l. flights.

My list is currently

747-100
DC-10
L-1011 (all types)
767-200/300/400
DC-10 (from WA)
MD-11
777ER
A310-200/300

Check a Delta sched between ATL and DTW on week-days. You might find your 777, but which model I do not know.

Safe, they look to be 777ERs......I could swear I found a 777L on a domestic route, earlier, but can't seem to locate it, now.

A quick check on Delta.com for today shows that DL2846 (ATL-DTW) is a 77L, and the same for Monday, Thursday and Friday.

They used to operate them between ATL and LAX as part of the ATL-LAX-SYD service.

The 763 can be found doing domestic routes here and there, I think there's one going somewhere in Texas in the next few days or something. Either yesterday or today a 763 did SEA-ATL as well I believe. Also, the 77L does ATL-LAX as it continues on to SYD.

For conversations sake, I was changing at DTW on 8-19 and noticed a variety pack of heavy metal on the 'A'.

747-400
A330-300
767-300
777
757-300
thought that was interesting.......

Don't show any ATL-LAX, but I do show ATL-DTW and DTW-LAX as a 777L.

The 744 seems to be the most difficult to find......the others, not so bad.

He's already flown the various 767 models. He's wanting domestic 744. 77L, A332, A333 flights . DL does not currently operate the 77L between ATL and LAX. ATL-LAX is a mix of 763s and 757s.

I used it several months ago (checking out the herringbone layout in B/E). IIRC the a/c later operated (not "continued") to PVG from DTW.

Looks like Delta just dropped the A330-200 on ATL-LAX (was daily) and ATL-SEA (was Monday only).

Things do pop up on occasion though - MSP-SEA frequently sees an A330 of some sort to rotate planes around, and there was a 747-400 on ATL-SFO last week for a day. These tends to be last minute subs, but always a chance.

744 - just missed two repo chances at the start of the month, the aforementioned SFO-ATL and SEA-MSP. You'll probably have to wait until another schedule change shuffles the fleet around. I'm sure it will announced on here when it happens.

77L - not too difficult. Back on ATL-DTW as three times weekly, like srbmod stated, and, I believe, daily DTW-LAX. Also LAX-ATL is back on the table some days of the week.

A330 - besides Hawaii with the A333 (it's you're interested in that), it's the same story as the 744. Equipment subs or repos are all that's available right now. Some of the most likely destinations are SEA/LAX-MSP. A JFK-MSP repo happened a few days ago. An A332 sub is harder to find. Sometimes you'll find on it on a HNL run, but it's just that much harder to get.

Yeah, I'd be done, alright. Stick a fork in me. I was trying to do this a little easier than that, but thanks for the info.

Seems to be a slight hitch between NRT-BKK and NRT-HNL.....mind telling me what I should do there to get back to NRT, walk? I'm assuming I should turn around at BKK and go back to NRT, right?

Sorry, don't need that....already done. Perhaps my list is misleading.......the list in the original post is of those DL widebodies that I HAVE flown on, not my wish list.

The 744 has no scheduled domestic flights. Only extremely rare equipment changes or positioning flights, usually with 25 hours of notice (or less). I got one last week on SFO-ATL. For some reason it operated NRT-SFO-ATL in place of the normal 763ER. The next day there was another 744 on SEA-MSP - dunno why it was doing that one.

On certain days of the week the 77L will operate ATL-DTW-ATL. They use it to rotate the 777's into and out of the DTW base since there are no overseas rotation points between ATL and DTW, currently. Also, there is DTW-LAX-SYD on the 77L now, but on a less-than-daily basis. 3x weekly, I believe it is.

The A330's run ATL-LAX and ATL-SEA on a less-than-daily basis also, I seem to recall.

I can confirm the 77L flies ATL-DTW as then the plane continues to HKG, in fact I flew on the 77L just a week ago today ATL-DTW. The reason for these flights is because currently ATL is the only station that does the 777 maint. However, with the expansion of most of the 777 flying going to DTW I would imagine that the DTW TechOps will also start taking care of these birds effectively ending these positioning flights.

As of now the 744, A330 does not do any scheduled domestic (save the 333 to HNL) flights, except the rare re-positioning but nothing regularly scheduled.

Hmm. Guess you learn something new every day. DL16 used to be ATL-JFK-BOM with the 77E, then got switched to a 77L, then they took out the JFK stop. Then it was switched to ATL-LAX-SYD. It is a different route or aircraft now?
