US Airways A321 IFE

Wed Sep 15, 2010 6:43 pm

I am scheduled to fly on US Airways from LAX to PHL next week, and the flight is to be on an Airbus A321. I have flown several times on US Airways this year, on A320's and A319's, and noticed there was no IFE on any of those planes. Looking at seatguru.com, there doesn't appear to be any IFE on their A321; but when looking at some pictures of A321's here on airliners.net, I see some overhead drop-down screens. Do the A321 aircraft have the feature, or not? Would be nice if they did, but if not, I'd like to be prepared for a 5+ hour flight. Thanks!

I don't know the answer, but I do know this: it's always wise to be prepared for whatever flight you are on as if there was no IFE. The day you show up it might not work; it's definitely a common cabin writeup, and it will almost certainly not impact the dispatch of the aircraft.

Plan for the worst and hope for the best! Have a great trip, and let us know the answer about the US A-321 IFE.

No IFE on any US planes do except the A330s. but there is WiFi on the A321 and the A321's only.

The only IFE on the 321s is the GoGo wireless internet. You can use it anytime above 10,000 feet.

There used to be drop down screens on all of the Airbus aircraft, that would play either a movie or a trivia game, but those systems were removed a couple of years ago.

The 757s and 767s still have TV screens for TATL and Hawaiian flights, as well as PTVs in Envoy. The A330s have PTVs for every seat.

phlstudent & Maverick623, you were correct - there are no video monitors/in-flight entertainment on US Airways Airbus A321s. I took a picture with my iPhone of the cabin from my seat (26F), but I'm having trouble uploading it here (I need to compress the files somehow). Other than the no IFE, it was a pretty nice plane - newish, nice seats and overhead bins, good legroom (even for me, I'm 6'0"), clean, modern - I was impressed. I heard one of the flight attendants say that these planes did at one point used to have the screens, but were taken out to save weight and cost (as Maverick623 mentioned). Too bad, but I'm glad Delta and Continental don't have that mindset.

Glad you were. The A321 you were on was most likely delivered in 2009, so it's still has a newish feel to it, although unfortunately the new plane smell is gone.
