What Is With AF Seating?

Fri Oct 01, 2010 9:42 am

I flew back on them and it felt Tight, yet I looked at Seat Guru and most of the planes including one's I've been on are 17 inches wide...Is the difference in the fact that it is 1 armrest instead of 2. I can't understand where I'm loosing the width compared to spacious flights of the same width.

Wow, and I thought a Metroliner was bad

I know you mean seats, but I've not found this on AF. I think this could come down to aircraft type - were you on a 777-300ER with 10 abreast in Y per chance? I've flown their 777-200ERs in Y and I was very impressed with the seat comfort, it was in fact about the only good experience of AF.

You can't compare seats based on the width data in SeatGuru and similar sites. There are different ways of measuring seat width. Is it the cushion width only, does it include the armrest, does it include the gap between the seat cushions/backs?

The only AF aircraft with notably narrow seats in my experience are the 10-abreast 777s (like all 10-abreast 777s, not just AF's).

I've never had any seat problems with AF. However, I've never flown on their 777s, which I'm told are not very comfortable at all.
and with that..cabin crew, seats for landing please.

I flew on Air France 744 (10 abreast) and 772 (9 abreast) and it felt more cramped then an Emirates 77L (10 abreast). I think their armrests or aisles are relatively wide, so the seats feel narrower.
nobody has ever died from hard work, but why take the risk?

I flew on the A340-300 with AF and found it more cramped than the Aer Lingus A330s or Continental Airlines 757s. I don't know why, it might be just me. It was standard 2-4-2 seating but it just felt cramped.
