DL First Class Question

Sat Oct 09, 2010 11:55 am

Hey all...looking to take my wife on a surprise trip to SAN towards the end of the year and DL has some reasonable F class fares. I have a couple of questions about the product. Is there any IFE on any of their fleet? And do you get lounge access with a F ticket?

It depends on the AC that your on, where are you flying from? On a paid F ticket you will have skyclub access.

I'll be flying out of BWI (most likey) Possibly RIC. So out of BWI I'll have the choice of any of the narrow body fleet. Through all the hubs as well. And RIC is either going to be the MD88 or 757 through ATL.

Probably no IFE if on a 757 and definitely not on a 88 on the ATL segment. If your on a 757 or a 737 to SAN you probably will. If its an airbus you wont.

So is it safe to say the 738's will have it? I have that option BWI-SLC-SAN. Although I'm in love with the 757's. Thanks for all the info

it is hit or miss with the 738, id say if you were doing something like a atl to san the odds are very high. they seem to be deploying the ptv ac on the nonstop transcons more. with a stop in slc the potential for a 738 with the drop down screens is there. there is relay no way to tell. I was on a PHX ATl run over the summer on a 738 and a 757 on the way back and it was overhead tv's. I did DTW-SFO and we had ptv on the 738 and the 757.

On a paid F ticket you will have skyclub access.

Not the case, as only those passengers (that are not Sky Club members) with a full fare Y, first class or BusinessElite ticket between JFK and one of the following cities, SAN, LAS, LAX, DEN, PDX, SNA, SFO, SEA and PHX have Sky Club access. Those flying those same routes out of ATL or any other DL hub do not get Sky Club access as a benefit of buying a full fare Y or a seat up in First. Personally, I feel that regardless of where you're going, if you'd paid the money on a full fare Y or a First Class/BusinessElite ticket and do not have a membership, they ought to include this perk.

Right now, the ATL-SAN schedule is all 757s, so I would assume that these are all 75Xs, which feature the Delta On Demand IFE system.

If there are 7 rows in First Class on the 757, then you will have PTVs. If it is 6 rows, you will not.

ATL-SAN is hit or miss with PTVs, so look at the seat map.

If you really want lounge access, go via JFK (which is a valid connection). JFK-SAN should have the PTVs on the 737-800s (JFK-West Coast is supposed to be all PTVs), but equipment swaps do occur (I had a 737-800 a week or so ago on JFK-SEA with no PTVs).

All 767s and 757s operated between ATL and SAN have AVOD installed unless there is a last minute equipment swap for some reason you will be on the transcon 757 and have AVOD. I fly SAN-ATL all the time and have only once had a non AVOD 757 and that's because of an equipment swap.

Right now that is the case; however, this is often not the case. Ask any of the SAN-based Diamonds on FlyerTalk who do SAN-ATL weekly...

Thanks again for all the help. I worked for UA for almost 5 years and my last few flights have been with DL (government travel) so I've been building up miles/loyalty with them and really don't know a lot about everything they have to offer. Now correct me if I'm wrong about the passes to the SkyClub. If you buy a 30 day pass that entitles you to have a guest? The flights I'm most likely going to end up with have pretty long layovers and my wife is spoiled (had a RCC membership when I was with UA) and I know she misses it :P

Hmmm maybe, I mean I fly the route about every 3 months and always have a transcon 757. It's pretty much been the transcon 757 since it was introduced to the fleet however many years ago.

According to the info in the link I posted above, if you buy a 30 day membership, you can take a guest.

Equipment swaps can happen on DL. Within the past year I've experienced:

A downgrade from an M90 to an M88 on ATL-EWR (that stung because I've never been on the M90 and specifically booked that flight for it.)

LAX-JFK on a 737-800 with no PTV

MSP-LAX from a 738 with PTVs went MX so they threw in a regular 738 with overhead screens. That wasn't that bad though.

So yes, DL can very well change the a/c on you.
