Aircraft Model You've Flown The Most On

Thu Oct 14, 2010 8:47 am

Hi,

As a Sunday morning refresher I thought we could start another interesting and traditional by now a.net questionnaire. I would like to propose that we all share experiences in terms of the aircraft model you've flown on most times, including the number of airlines on which you've flown that specific model.

My record is the Airbus 320. I've flown this model 32 times with a total of 15 airlines. Here's the breakdown.

Air Moldova (7)
Northwest Airlines (3)
US Airways (3)
JetBlue Airways (3)
British Airways (2)
United Airlines (TED) (2)
Air Via (2) op. on behalf of Air Moldova
Air Asia (2)
Wizzair (2)
Air France (1)
Myway Airlines (1)
Vueling Airlines (1)
Austrian Airlines (1)
BMI (1)
Lufthansa (1)

Please, share your experiences!

Airbus A330. I've flown on it 9 times, once on QF A332, and eight times on CX A333.

The route I fly most often is PER-HKG, with CX, and since CX only operates A333s direct from PER-HKG, it's no surprise that I've flown on that more often than any other. QF is the only other airline that operates PER-HKG, also on an A333.

I do quite like the A330s, but only if it has the new style sidewalls and overhead panels. I find the old ones really makes the aircraft look dated.

By the way - shouldn't this be in the Polls and Prefs forum?

For me the 737 in various incarnations -100 ( ! ) , -200 , -300 , -400 , -700 , -800

Ansett New Zealand -100 / -200 did not keep track but would have to have been at least 15-20 times

Air New Zealand -200 / -300 probably more in the realm of 70-80 times

QF -300/-400 a couple of dozen times

Air Vanuatu -400 ( pretty sure .. but it was about a dozen years ago ) 2 x

Air Pacific -300 2 x

CP Air / Canadian Airlines -200 x 6

LH - 300 x 1

Brussels Airlines - 400 x 4

Sky Europe -300 x 1 , - 700 x 3

Virgin Blue -700 x 1 - 800 x 1

Thai Airways -400 x 2

Malaysia Airlines - 400 x 2

British Airways / Comair -200 x 1

Air Europa - 400 x 1

I am sure that there must have been a few others which I have forgotten .

My apologies:

First would be Boeing 737-800 on FR, around 30 flights.
Lockheed L1011 on LTU around 20, similar number on B727 with Condor.

The rest mixes together from many airlines and types, LH as example B707, DC10, B747s, A300, A310, A319, A320, A321, B727,B732,B733,B735 I remember directly each in single digits.

Depending on whether I group sub models I get two different results

Either

1. Boeing 737 (27)
2. Dash 8 (9)
3. Boeing 767 (7)

or with sub models

1. Boeing 737-800 (12)
2. Boeing 767-300 (7)
3. Boeing 737-300 (6)

It seems that the Airbus 320 features in many responses, but impressed to hear from CHRISBA777ER that the Boeing 777 is second or third in his list. For me second place is Boeing 737-800. A total of 26 flights on 7 airlines with this sub-model.

I guess I'm one of the few that listed a widebody as the aircraft type most flown on. Living in the most isolated capital city in the world probably accounts for that, plus the fact that if I ever had a choice between a widebody and a narrowbody, the widebody always wins.

My third would be the A340-300, thanks too many flights to EWR with LH in the 90s and early 2000s, now I mostly fly AF or Delta/Northwest to the States

2nd would be A319 by now (only one flight with the A320 and one with the A321)

4th would be the A300 (again thanks to LH not flying from Berlin directly to the States but from FRA)

Of all the unlikely aircraft, my most numerous has been on the Fokker F-100. The reason is that my home airport, SWF, had at one time USAir, American, and Midway all flying F-100s to Pittsburgh, Chicago, and Raleigh, respectively.

UA B763 DUS-IAD-DUS
KL E120 MST-STN-MST
KL A332 AMS-IAD
KL B744 YYZ-AMS

Interesting fact, I've never flown eastbound on a outbound flight

I've flown several times on a C172 next to a certified instructor as a pilot-to-be out of LEY.

According to my flightmemory stats, exactly 1/3 of all segments I've ever flown have been on 737s. No other type is even close. With my family all down south, and me in Chicago, I do MDW-BNA on WN a LOT. I think it's going to be more and more 737s in the future, with DL buying more of them and putting them on Caribbean routes, and WN soon to fly into ATL and hopefully MEM. In another 5-10 years I predict that 737s will account for half of all segments I've taken.

I wonder if any future aircraft type will ever overtake the 737 for my personal record?

I don't know the total, but it has to be the 767, followed by a combo of A340-300's and A346's, all IB. Following that, probably 747's.
The 747 will always be the TRUE queen of the skies!

The 737-300 is my tops at 140. Here's the breakdown according to my Flightmemory:

Continental Airlines (49) 6 of them I have flown on more than 5x, 4 of them I have flown on more than 2x.
America West (32) 12 of them I have flown on more than 5x.
Delta Airlines (25) I have flown on N3301 while in service with DL a total of 17 times, and a few others I have flown on more than 2x.
US Airways (19) Most of these are former America West birds after the US merger.
Western Airlines (9) N3301 while in service with WA, i have flown on 6 times, and single times on other frames.
Frontier Airlines (4)
Southwest Airlines (2)

For me, it's the A320, with at least 37 flights as a passenger. 30 of those were on B6, with several on AC.

Next is the 737 and variations, with about 24 flights (almost all on WN), probably a few more.

The plane I can fully account for flying on the most is the 747, with 10 flights. Since I'm usually putting back and forth between California and NY, it's a rare treat for me to take one.

For me A319, A320, and A330 are tied for first with 11 flights each.

A321 and 737-200 are tied for second.

Third place is shared between 747-400 and A340-300.

RE: Aircraft Model You've Flown The Most On

It's quite interesting to note how geographic location in many ways shapes the models one would fly on. I, for example, have flown on airplanes that many on these forum have expressed a strong desire to fly on, like the AN-24, YAK-40/42, IL-96, TU-134/154, yet I am still missing some important birds in my collection, which have been put down as frequent models by some a.netters. Still haven't flown on the 777-300, 767-200, 757-300, Airbus 340-200/500 and MD-11 yet. These are my top targets for the time being. Later on I'll be looking to get on the ERJ-140/170/175/195 but I know they'll be around for some time so I am not in a great hurry for now.

I'd be the 737-300, 737-500, or the 737-700 all on WN. I'd say I've flown on them all about the same amount of times.

Of other aircraft, A320 once on US Airways and once on United, CRJ-200 (Mesa - 6 times), CRJ-900 (Mesa - 10 times)

AA 757s maybe 4 times
AA MD83 maybe 12 times

I'm sure I've flown on HP and WN 732s but that was a while ago.

I don't remember all of my flights or have an exact count, but I'd venture to guess that the McDonnell Douglas DC-9 (-10/-30/-40/-50) tops my list. I've flown on them dozens of times with NW and now Delta. The Airbus A319/A320 probably comes in second, with the Boeing 757-200/-300 third.

I like all three, so I'm happy with my list!

I don't have the exact number, but for me it probably would be the 737 (on CO, DL, FL, TZ, US and WN).

As for as the sub-type model breakdown:

737-200
DL - 1
FL - 1
US - possibly 1

737-300
US - 3 or 4
WN - 3

737-400
US - 3 or 4

737-500
WN - 2

737-700
FL - 3
WN - the most (can't recall the exact number)

737-800
CO - 3
DL - 4
TZ - 2

I have way more flights in the MD-80 series by far than anything else. Somewhere around 4,000 segments and about 2,000 in the DC-9. Nothing else comes close; of course I do it for a living.

On the other end of the scale, I have exactly one flight in a PA-38. That's the single model I only have one flight in that I can think of off the top of my head.
