Joining A Frequent F. Club Just For The Card?

Sat Dec 11, 2010 3:03 am

Hi, will I get in trouble if I just sign up for a frequent flier club just for the card itself? I would like to collect FF cards. What airlines give you REAL cards as a basic member? I know OZ does and UA doesn't. Comments are welcomed.

And if I can, what are some of the best looking FF cards out there?  Smile

PS: I'm already an OZ (later moved to UA) and I used those frequently.

Many frequent flyer programs will only issued a card once you have flown a minimum number of sectors or miles. EK is an example. You'll need to check the fineprint of each program to see what the threshold is. Some frequent flyer programs will let you print a temporary card to use until the proper card is issued.

Have fun collecting.

I know BMI DON'T issue you a card straight away. I signed up ages back and don't have one, just a membership number. I assume it's similar with all Star Alliance members.

I did my research and it looks like AF, TG and VS will send you a card once you sign up. And I'm planning to sign up for LH and I intend to use it. Can anyone confirm?

I was automatically issued a real Delta SkyMiles card late last year. I don't know if that was standard practice or because I had an active WorldPerks account.

AA and DL sent me one, but those miles are long gone. I'm stocking up miles with US, but they have yet to send me a card.

Though I like your idea. Might be fun.

From experience QF and DJ send a card out right away. NZ do but you now have to pay NZD$50 to join Airpoints. I have an SQ card but only received it after I flew a sector.

Thanks for all your responses!

I already signed up for Hawaiian and Lufthansa.

As well as TG and DL but unfortunately you have to fly some miles before you can get the card.

As far as I'm aware you get a temporary card which you print off and after you have flown your first sector then they send the actual card along with the booklets, etc.

I recently signed and wasn't charged anything at all, however QF charged me 2,000 points for one which I thought was wrong.

Hi JetBlue777,

I did this many years ago when I worked at LHR, Also joined all the Hotel chains, great fun collecting the cards.
Here are a few examples for you.

Yes I know the membership number is there, just incase someone wants to donate some mileage

Qantas will send you a card, only if you have an Australian address and pay the Australian joining fee. If you are from another country and join, there is no fee, and you won't get a card until you go to Silver Status.
I do quite enjoy a spot of flying - more so when it's not in Economy!
