Restaurant And Red Carpet Club Suggestions At ORD

Mon Dec 13, 2010 6:21 pm

What is the nicest/best Red Carpet Club at O'Hare? Also, does anybody have suggestions for a good local Chicago restaurant anywhere at ORD? I have a few hours to kill on a layover.

It's primarily B and C concourses.

B is more crammed, and thus tend to have more passengers in/out.

C is slightly more deserted, and it's used by ANA as well, so the service quality feels slightly better

but then - just use the one closer to your gate, unless you don't mind doing a roundtrip in that underground walkway

Well washingtonian...where to begin?

By "a good local Chicago restaurant", you mean a sit down restaurant with interesting food... well keep in mind that the
restaurants at ORD only come in bad and O.K, IMHO, so don't set your hopes too high.

There's a sit-down restaurant -I think they even have tablecloths!   at the Hilton outside of security which I would try if I ever had several hours to kill and didn't mind going back through; might work if you're going to or coming from the International Terminal 5.

As for in the secure part of the domestic terminals
-which by the way, if you don't know, are all accessible w/o touching security-
I don't find the Italian restaurant in the American main concourse too bad (Terminal 3, "K" gates). Its one of the rare sit-down places (as opposed to those "perching style" places found throughout Terminal One and elsewhere). At the entrance to Concourse "G" there's a pretty big sit-down place; typical American food.

The Chili's in Terminal two's "F" gates is a sit-down too; nothing special but, you know... filling and usually crammed with people as are most of the "F" gates. There are McDonalds (well.. they are Chicago based and you asked for "local Chicago") and many other buy and take places. I've found sushi in the stalls near C9 which wasn't bad.

Red carpet clubs: there's one near B7, a big one near C16, and a smallish one out near F4. My favorite (but its small and out of the way) is near B18.

Cheers!

B7 and B18 are my two favorite RCCs at ORD - B18 tends to be a bit quieter. Both have been refreshed in the past year or so.

This year I have 156 segments flown, and I still can't really find a good use for ORD except connecting. O'Hare is not my favorite airport for spending the day sightseeing (that would be SFO). And I don't do RCC -- never have -- not my cup of tea.

I rarely do other than grab 'n go -- and my favorite walk-away-with-your-food spot would be the Berghoff Tavern in C concourse -- their overstuffed steak fajita is my favorite. I do occasionally stop at Johnny Rockets if I'm walking from F gates to B gates and have the time -- I know it's shortening my life, but that's my personal choice.

Probably the nicest restaurant in the whole airport is the *Tuscany* oddly placed in the B concourse extension (between gates B18 and B19). It's *so* out of the way that unless you have a couple of hours to sit down and eat, there's no point in going there.

Try their Chicken Milanese with a little pasta, and it won't weight you down.

Should be do-able. If you find yourself in Terminal 3, be sure to walk all the way down to the end of the "K" gates -where Iberia departures occur. Spotting at O'Hare isn't great, but this spot at least gives you a view of the International Terminal and all the tails there; especially from mid-afternoon to sundown, when it can be pretty impressive. The "astro turf" like green painted 30 yards out is pretty distinctive and can be spotted in many O'Hare photos in the A-net database.

cheers!

As kgaiflyer said, the Berghoff by C30 is great. Their Rueben sandwich is tops. The bar area has places to sit and you can either people watch or view aircraft taxi-ing by on the inner and outer. If you like rootbeer, their version is very tastey as well.
I will have a Manhattan.
