AA705 Diverted To PHX

Sun Dec 19, 2010 7:15 pm

I am currently on the flight from DFW to PSP and we just diverted to PHX due to weather. We are apparently taking some more fuel and then heading towards PSP. They aren't telling us much, except that they want to have this extra fuel because we will be in a hold for awhile.

If you know anything, feel free to share!

We have been getting some heavy rain here in SoCal, so that may have something to do with it.

That's what I figured. I don't know much about the approach into PSP but I heard you come over a mountain..

The pilot just said the weather is atrocious and we will sit here for another 40 minutes because the weather is expected to be above minimums in almost 2 hours..

You landed at PHX with ~7k of fuel so you wouldn't have had much to hang around the PSP area before diverting. WX in PHX is much better than SoCal and the traffic is less. The new plan has you arriving PSP with ~15k of fuel. Plenty to hold and try approaches with yet still divert if necessary. PSP weather is 800 overcast, 4 miles light rain/mist. Approach minimums are 2300' (1823') - 3 miles vis. Legal to attempt approach(es), but not likely to see the airport.

I appreciate the information! We are at least getting water and one nutrigrain bar! Ha. Hopefully we depart soon. They said we have 3 options to divert if it happens again.. PHX, ONT, and LAS.

Final update from our pilot.. they're flying us to ONT then providing buses to PSP.

Makes sense, PSP has had 6 deversions away form it in the last 2 hours. Nothing getting in, ceilings too low to meet the circle to land mins.
