Connecting In DXB

Wed Dec 29, 2010 11:57 pm

Hi all,

Could anyone share their opinions and thoughts on connecting via DXB? I am looking at flights that go through DXB. Would a 1 hr 55 min connection time be enough (EK to EK) around 0030-0200? I know that is the busy time at DXB.

LHR-DXB-SEZ is the segment.

Thanks!

Yes, 1 hr 55 min should be enough time to transfer in DXB. EK normally won't let you make a booking if the connection time is less than 1 hr 15 min.

Provided that your flight into DXB is not delayed and even if you park at a remote stand and need to be bussed to the terminal, you should have plenty of time to make your way to the departure gate.

EK often have staff on hand to assist through security passengers who have a tight connection if the inbound flight is delayed. You should be OK with the1 hr 55 min layover time.

That should be more than sufficient especially since EK flights are under a single roof in their own terminal (T3)

That is what EK like to claim but it is not quite true. EK flights that I have been on often parked at remote stands, requiring a bus transfer to the terminal. Flights may depart from either T1 or T3, although the two termini are connected. All the same, the time should be quite sufficient.

I have yet to experience a EK flight in T-1 in recent years. Also looking at the DXB departures board online, it shows all EK flight departures in T-3 at the moment.

Officially all check-in for EK departures is at T3 but that does not mean that the aircraft will depart from a gate at T3.

The fact is that DXB is too small to handle all EK flights at T3, hence the continuing use of T1 gates and remote stands. The pressure may be reduced once the new concourse is complete. As examples, my last flight to VIE was from gate 120 and on a recent trip to Spain my arrival from PER was to a remote stand and the departure to MAD was from gate 123. Both trips within the last twelve months.

Does anyone have an idea of when the new concourse is to be completed?

I think that it is expected to be complete Q4 2012 with operations commencing soon after. See http://www.zawya.com/Story.cfm/sidZAWYA20100405051859 and http://www.dubaiairportguide.com/new...4/12/concourse-3-at-dubai-airport/ for details.

Hi to you all,

nice to read. Anyone experince with flydubai?! I will travel soon on a flydubai-connection-service via Dubai, having only 60mins. to transfer. According to flydubai this wouldn't be a problem (as it is one single ticket and booking). But according to their web-page:

When you reach Dubai, you'll need to go directly to the flydubai connect desk (before immigration and the transfer security point) where your boarding pass and travel documents will be checked. You'll then continue through security to the departure gate for your connecting flight.

So, are all flydubai's flight in the same terminal? Long walking distance to the transfer counter to pick up the boarding passes? and finally, is the security check quick? any experience in the past? ThanX

Are you flying into DXB with flydubai and connecting to another flydubai flight?

If so, the procedure is straight forward as all flights arrive and depart at T2. T2 is not all that big so within the terminal distances are not too far. Although it has been refurbished and expanded recently, it only has few (I think six) air-bridges and most departures are from remote stands. T2 is not directly connected with T1 or T3.

If you are arriving into DXB aboard an EK flight you will need to go to the central transfer desk in T3 (also known as transfer desk "K") where your documentation will be checked, before boarding a transfer bus to T2. How far you have to walk (run) depends on which gate or stand you arrive at.

1.55 hours is more than sufficient for an EK to EK transfer at DXB. Making transfers such as these work is the heart of the EK business model.

That said if you are feeling nervous on the flight you can always ask your cabin crew for help and they'd gladly relay the message on to DXB or in extenuating circumstances try to let you disembark first if it would help with your connection.

Happy flying and enjoy your flight with us
