Headbreaker: Jetstar Or Tiger?

Thu Dec 30, 2010 12:52 pm

Need a SIN-SGN ticket for the end of January and SGN-SIN ticket for the end of February 2011, resp.

TR has higher frequency and far cheaper fares than 3K...

What would you choose, knowing TR is cancelling lot's of flights recently (due crew shortages ?)...

Are the SGN flights effected a lot ?

What is the minimum-connecting-time 2 SIN between the Budget Terminal and Terminal 2 ?

Appreciate your input, esp. from the (SIN) people in the know...

Flown both TR and 3K.

If TR's fares are "far cheaper" and its frequency "higher", as you stated, I'd go with this airline. However, if you would prefer to pay more for greater peace-of-mind, fly 3K.

I'd recommend 3K. Heard from almost everyone that flown TR that their seats were pretty uncomfortable and service was horrendous. Connecting from T2 to the Budget Terminal should be quite fast, you can do it in an hour as immigration at SIN should not take more than 3 minutes and the baggage claim is at its maximum 10 minutes.

I've never had a problem. They did what I expected them to do.

I fly out of Changi alot.
The budget terminal is a different place and location all together but can be reached fairly easily especially since you go from terminal 2. there is a shuttle bus from the basement of terminal 2 that goes to the budget terminal. It departs every ten minutes. Lets say 30 mins between the two terminals and that's on the safe side.

To me its not much difference between the two airlines.
I would go with price in this instance. Since frequency is high by Tiger it shouldnt be any concerns for you.

I have flown tiger a few times and haven't had any issues with reliability or ontime performance. But neither of those airlines are to be trusted if you have a tight connection at Changi.

Reading your post it suggests you have another flight when returning from SGN to SIN?

If so, myself I would choose the flight wich allows the longest connection time, leaves room to manoeuvre if problems occur.

I've flown 3K on 4 sectors and they were fine and on time, however if TR have the right price with the right schedule, take them.

Strange decision when SGD$150 is about €87, but enjoy.

Reason for choosing 3K over TR was also:

-Arrival and departure of both my flights T1 @ SIN...
-20 kilo baggage-fee still to be added to TR fare, so fare-difference, actually, less than SGD150...
-Peace of mind due numerous recent TR cancellations

Cheers,
