Connection Time At PHX

Mon Jan 10, 2011 6:35 am

I'm looking for schedules and fares between SAT & PSP on July, 19th and the most interesting are US Airways flights SAT-PHX-PSP.
The connection time is something like 70mn. Is it enough?

70 minutes on US ?
This is a no-brainer at PHX. Go for it ! You even will have time to get something to bite, even if you have to change from one pier to another. PHX is very friendly and laid out for connections.

I have connected on US through PHX enroute from ABQ to PSP. Often with an hour connect time. I have also been routed through PHX to other destinations with roughly an hour...and it "usually" works comfortably. A time or two I have had to make a run for it though. Interesting to note that I had to run and my luggage always made it!

PHX is one of the airports you can usually cut it a little closer at. It's large, efficient and usually unaffected by weather (unless a monsoon parks itself over PHX, which does happen from time to time).

Personally I'd stick with WN for that routing, using ONT vs PSP and take a cheap shuttle to the Palm Springs area.

Over multiple trips however, I have found that your plan costs considerably more. The ONT shuttle to PSP often costs more than the the PHX to PSP portion.

This is my main concern, the luggages!

I want to go directly to PSP where I'll stay for one week, renting a car at the airport. I do not want to make the drive from ONT.

As for the price, the SAT-PHX-PSP with US will cost only 187$ and I find it cheap.

Nothing to worry about.

Does this include fees for checked bag(s) ?

WN might turn out to be cheaper, but faced with the option to either fly into PSP or into ONT with a lenghty drive to the PSP-area afterwards (traffic on I-10 can be heavy at times), also I would prefer the US-flight into PSP even if it means to connect at PHX.

I have to check again.

To be honest, I'll prefer flying US as I will see 3 new airports (SAT - PHX - PSP) with two flights instead of WN (2 airports and 1 flight)
And in addition, I know that traffic on I-10 can be very heavy (been there several times).

Icarus,

At worst you have to walk from the westernmost pier to the easternmost pier. It is a very easy jaunt in less than 10 minutes, most days.

I would assume the PHX-PSP is a CRJ/CR9 so that would be at the easternmost pier(s).

Cheers,
Cory

70 minutes should be plenty. The biggest problem with flying US through PHX are the frequent delays for an available gate. I've landed there 10 minutes early only to wait 45 minutes for a gate.

And that's the million dollar answer. Now that I think about it, over 50% of the time that would happen to me as well. Last time I flew in via LAX on a loaded A321, and sat on the ramp in front of the USA hangar for almost 40 minutes waiting for a gate.
