1h25m Enough Connecting Time At LHR T3?

Sun Feb 13, 2011 10:55 am

I am looking from flying from Australia to Norway in the summer (June). I would be arriving on SQ322 from SIN at 05:55 in the morning and connecting onto SK802 to OSL at 07:20 (which gives me 1h25m)

Both airlines are part of Star Alliance, so I would get my bags through checked (Or is there a minimum time needed for Star alliance to allow them to check bags through?)

How bad is transit in Terminal 3 at that time in the morning, and is there an express lane for people with short connections or a priority lane for passengers traveling in Business/First (not me) or with FF Gold (me).

Lastly, if I do miss my connection with SK, will I lose my full fare, or will they rebook me onto a later flight (keep in mind I am coming with a partner airline, although on different booking, and I am *Gold with TK). Also, just a later flight won't do, but I am connecting in OSL to EVE, but that will be on the same booking.

Concerning your first question I can't comment, but concerning your second one I would expect - no matter which class or status - that you will not be rebooked for free, since it's two tickets. You will need to expect to loose everyhting, everything else is goodwill, and this should never be expected.

I had such problems with LH and LX, which are partner airlines as well. They even refused to check me through, which would make a 1h25 connection in LHR impossible, since you would need to clear immigration, get your bags, check in again, clear again immigration...

I wouldn't take the risk to be honest...

We have done the same route before, but with 1h50m, and SQ had no problem checking my bags all the way through, but I would need to check-in again at LHR (but airside, so no immigration). That time, we were all the way through to the departure hall in less than 30 min, it was probably less than 20 minutes, no cues, just walking distance.

So, the problem really is in the worst case scenario, and if I would have to rebook completely.

But, I haven't been through LHR in a couple of years, and I'm really wondering how transit T3 to T3 is at that time of the day, and if there is are any provisions for passengers with short connections.

It can be hit and miss with Heatrow. However I would say, minimum 3 hours, just to be on the safe side. Whenever I fly longhaul through Heatrow I always seem to wind up in ques and with little time.

Another problem with Heatrow is that the inbound flight might find itself circling for some time before it is allowed to land. I have never circled over an airport as much as I have over Heatrow and surroundings.

In January I did ZRH-LHR-SIN on LX and SQ also on two tickets. I even had to go from T1 to T3. Everything went smoothly without any problem apart from the check in agent in ZRH who refused to check my bags thorough to SIN but after insisting she accepted to check my bags thorough to SIN. I had a connecting time of 150minutes.

I fully agree LHR can be a hit or a miss. In 2010 I was travelling from ZRH to HKG with LX and NZ (1 ticket, no need of changing the terminal) and my bags arrived in HKG one day before I had to fly back to ZRH
Fall 2016: ZRH-TLV-ZRH on A3 or LX in Y, ZRH-LCY-ZRH on LX in Y
Spring 2017: ZRH-LCY-ZRH-SFO-LAS-LAX-ZRH on LX in Y,C and F

i was on the LHR website just now and they have a flight connections section on their website. When I put in details of my flights (arrive in T3 on international flight, depart from T3 on international flight), they give me a minimum of 70 minutes connecting time. If I choose this flight, I will have 85 minutes, and they base their 70 minutes as "standard minimum connection time published by IATA"

I think I might actually do this trip with that short a connection. Seems my travel insurance (corporate), will cover a missed connection.

Should be ok. Min connect for T3-T5 is 1h30 so T3-T3 is fine. Make sure when checking in with SQ you let them know your onward details and the bag can be tagged all the way through.

It can get a bit messy sometimes, but they seem to be doing OK with the transit area. It should not take too long. I cant recall when going past a separate line for fast track there.

Now, I dont know about Star, but with Oneworld, that would be treated as a Oneworld misconnect. SAS should not have a problem putting you on the next service.
