Longest Taxiwayrun From Runway To Gate

Sun Feb 27, 2011 7:10 pm

I was wondering about the longest distance from runway to gate. I'm thinking DEN, ATL in second and JFK.

I think landing on the remote runway at Amsterdam Schipol (runway 18 i think) it is about 3+ miles of taxiing to some of the gates, I know when we landed on it last year it seemed like we landed in another country & then taxied to AMS from there!
Flying may not be all plain sailing, but the fun of it is worth the price.

Has to be AMS - the 'Polderbaan' runway is miles from the terminals.

In PEK when landing on rwy 36L the shortest taxiway run to the farthest gate is about 8000m (2600ft)

9L/27R at ORD...

The taxi time to the F Gates are longer than some flights to Chicago. I've seen upwards of 30 minutes, when a MKE-ORD flight only takes 17.

I'd throw in DFW-Landing on 17L and a taxi to Terminal B.

Yes, my vote if for the reef runway (26L) at HNL doesnt even seem anywhere near the airport, especially when you taxi out there at night...you can fall asleep, wake up and still be taxing!

Denver usually arranges departures and arrivals for reasonably short taxi times unless there is an unfavorable weather condition. Often you can depart the concourse and taxi just a few minutes to your t/o runway, it was designed to arrange runways in just such a manner as to allow quick access yet also wide separation for departures and arrivals.

Two of the longest ones is when landing in ORD on 9L/27L. Another one is departing the E terminal in DFW and departing 18L

First one that came to mind for me. I was on an EI flight and before landing the pilot came on and announced that we would have over 20 minutes to taxi to the gate, It's a lucky thing that I had 4 hours for the connecting flight to BKK

Some of the examples given above are the longest possible distances at a large airport, but I'm wondering - given the example of PEK, where the distance is from the furthest gate of the new terminal to the far end of the northernmost runway - if this would ever be used by an aircraft, particularly if it involves taxying across an active runway.

The longest I've ever taxied is from the gate at AMS to the 36L threshold (or after landing on 18R back to the terminal), which is around five miles.

I have been on a Kingfisher flight that did that DEL taxi (before the new terminal opened)

Also landed at CAI way out on some new outer runway and had to taxi in the middle of the night for ever and ever, passengers were joking about it "is the pilot taking us into central Cairo? Good, then I don't need to deal with the taxis"

I'd have to throw MCO in the mix here. Try landing on 17L/35R and taxiing to Air-side 1 or 3.. It gets you ready for standing in line at DisneyWorld.

Either Amsterdam Polderbaarn (as already mentioned) or landing on 9L at CDG and then taxi to a remote stand at the far east end of the airfield and then get a bus to the terminal are the two longest I have experienced. The CDG taxi/remote stand parking has nearly made me miss at least 2 connections when I thought I had ample time!

@woodsboy & @Therock401: especially if the flight is parked on the Ewa wing (Gates 26-34) ... or try an AMC flight out of HIK to taxi to Rwy 26L ...

With LAX's Twy R and S closed for the TBIT renovation, flights that land on Rwy 24R has a long taxi to south side, especially the international flights

...well St.Petersburg (LEN) , if you land in the international sector and have to go to the domestic sector....it might take you up to 30-40 Minutes.....(well, it was a long time ago.but I don't know, if that has changed yet...)

Landed on 17L on my last visit to MCO, I began to wonder if the pilot was going to take us down the Bee line straight to I Drive

This looks like an unnecessarily long one in Pyongyang!

IAH landing 26R and an eastbound taxi at times through the east cargo ramp to the A29 can be a few miles and quite a long time depending on how fast you taxi.
