1.05 Hrs Transit Time At FRA

Fri Mar 18, 2011 3:13 am

Hi all,

I have just booked my tckts MAN - FRA - CCU on LH & am already worried about the transit time.

MAN - FRA is on LH (operated by BMI) & arrives into Terminal 1A at 0945.
FRA - CCU is on LH & departs from Terminal 1 A/B at 1050.

So I have to pass through all the hoops in 1 hr with a grumpy wife (we would already have had a fight over something by this stage), a "are we there yet ?" 9 yr old & a mum in a wheelchair.

Do you think its all going to end in a disaster ? FRA - CCU is thrice weekly so if we miss that flight, it might be a long wait at FRA.

Thanks,

AI.

Are both legs of the booking all on the one ticket? If so, should be OK. LH will be aware of any delay to your inbound flight and will make arrangements. I once had a 16 minute transfer in VIE on Lauda. The LGW-VIE Lauda flight was late but we all make it onto the VIE-SYD flight. Including the bags!!

I had a similar close connection at FRA a year ago. The incoming aircraft was a bit late and parked at a remote stand. LH met us with a small bus, rushed us through a special passport control area, and drove us to somewhat near our gate. We then had a forced march (with a 70-year old that has heart problems) to get us to our outbound plane, where they slammed the door as I walked through. We were taxiing before I could get my coat off.

The good news is that LH will work very hard to get you on your flight. The question is why you would want to put yourself through this? Can't you find something earlier into FRA? I'd rather kill a few hours at FRA then put up with the rush, especially if mum is in a wheelchair. I've also gone through this drill to have my baggage follow on the next flight. No big deal if its FRA-TXL, but maybe not so nice going to India!

I hate that airlines suggest connections that cause some much worry and effort on my part. Maybe there is no other way to get from MAN-FRA, but I try very hard never to have a connection under 2 hours in places like FRA, LHR, JFK etc.

Don't do it. Take an earlier flight to FRA. I've been burned with this before.

LH will do a lot to accomodate you on the flight in case delays occur etc. If you request a wheerchair service, you might probably even be met seperately and get a minicar to the new gate, which also gives you priority at security. Nothing to worry about. Make sure the MAN-groundstaff tag your luggage with 'short connection' tags.

Emirates is a very good option, but I presume it must have been expensive than LH? They fly almost double daily to CCU and soon triple daily to MAN.

BTW what is your date of travel? if it is post July you have Qatar Airways as an option, as they will start DOH - CCU flights from 27th July.

Thanks a lot for your replies.

Unfortunately I had no choice as EK was significantly more expensive than LH.

I am travelling in next 3 weeks & hence QR is not an option.

This is the first LH/BD flight from MAN to FRA so cant reach FRA any earlier.

My mum will be in a wheelchair & that will hopefully quicken things for us.

Nope, LH will take care of you.
But if not, you won't be stranded in FRA- you will be rebooked onto the next available *A flight, like AirIndia via Mumbay or so.

I've connected at FRA on different airlines and on different tickets (NW and AA and then to LH) and made it in less than an hour. I even collected my bags and rechecked them on LH. This was early in the morning.

Thanks for that.

I am reassured that it has been done in less than an hour before.

Any LH or Fraport employees here who can give me any tips to ensure I definitely make that connection.

Years ago I came off a Malev flight parked at a remote stand and connected to NW in about 45 minutes. Difficulty was mainly lack of signage and a FIDS. I agree with the above poster about requesting wheelchair service...do that and you'll likely be met and escorted quickly to the gate, and have no problem whatsoever.

It shouldn't be too bad. Also since you are on the first flight of the day out of MAN with your plane, the chance of a delay is far less. BMI has some tight turns, but they are pretty good about being on time with the first departure of the day.

FRA also isn't too difficult to connect at since you are going non-schengen to non-schengen.

Flying LHR-MUC-MAD with LH a few years, our first flight was very late, and the 6 of us transferring to MAD were met with a minibus, and brought staight to the steps on the next flight - bags made it too! Last May, I had a 50 min or so connection in FRA (LHR-FRA-CPH) which was a bit stressful (going round in circles + security + immigration), but made it with a bit of time to spare.
