UA Easycheck In...Win Or Fail

Sat Mar 19, 2011 3:35 am

Do you guys think UA easycheck is a fail. When ever I check in at the airport with UA there are a bunch of Easycheck in machines ready to check people in but people won't use them. I was at BOS one time and people would only use the machines if there was an agent behind the counter. There was one person in front of me who was just standing there and his reason for not going up is that he wanted to find out if his flight was delayed or canceled which is what the machines are are made for....

The Washington DC airports (BWI, DCA, and IAD) are set up so you can only check bags or reprint boarding passes using the machines. The only thing an agent will tell you is "Use the freak'n machine!".
I'm currently in SEA and it works pretty much the same way here.

However, I do know BOS -- that whole station is just a bit -- different (I mean that in a *nice* way).

But, if it works for BOS . . . .

I don't think this is specific to UA. There appear to be a decent number of people who are just intimidated by the machines or simply don't like them. For infrequent travelers I see a great deal of hesitation happening. I've been known to go around them if they aren't willing to use the machines. I also tend to tell people, if you can use an ATM you can do this. Just follow the onscreen prompt.
I want to live in an old and converted 727...

People are resistant to change, but they'll eventually get used to it. They just need to steer pax towards them, like DL in ATL is set-up to do.

WN's "Express Bag Drop" line amuses me. People will form a lengthy queue for the "full-service" counter without realizing they can just use one of the freestanding kiosks by the door to print a boarding pass, then skip the line and scan said boarding pass at the express drop counter.

I can see BWI and DCA but IAD??????? As a hub they surely must have a few check in features.

AFAIK, there is one special problems agent for those that miss flights, want to go on standby for a flight, or want a printed confirmation of a telephone change, and one agent for international snags and problems (passports without six months on them, ticket swaps etc) .

Go to LAX. Easy check in is the only way to make it to your plane on time. Otherwise you'll miss it!
