Airline Counter Check-in

Do we know which counter check-in method is preferred by most Airline Travelers?

A) One which has counters for a specific flight OR
B) One which has counters for all flights for that airline

The only advantage I can think of for A is that the airline knows how many pax are still in line for the flight and can add more staff as the flight approaches. As passenger who has arrived in time for check-in I much prefer B so I can get the next available agent and I'm not held up behind some person with a problem who is tying up the only agent for that flight.

Of course the best answer is C: Automated check-in machine with no line at all.

I am assuming you mean for airlines' flights from their hubs?

When flying C I prefer if they only have one counter for all the flights, as either way the lines will probably be quite short. If flying Y with no status I would prefer if the airlines had counters for specific flights, otherwise the check in lines get very, very long. However, this can be an issue at airports like CAN, which have a very large and not intuitive check-in desks area.

I think it also depends on the purpose of the flight. I take many domestic flights (within China) 2 - 3 times per week to go visit a customer for a few hours and come back. If I could, I would use the check-in kiosks (but I can't because you need a Chinese ID).

Oh, man do I hate "A." Soooooo irritating and often leads to one agent with a 10+ queue working literally next to another who is twiddling his thumbs.

And then there was the time my shared-van dropped me off at BUD at 4am, which was 2.5 hours before departure and I literally stood in the lobby staring at a Malev agent staring back at me for 30 minutes...but 2 hours is when he could open for my flight, so neither of us had a choice in the matter.

I REALLY like WN's newish system with a dedicated set of counters ONLY for bag drop. You can't do anything else there, really speeds it along when I don't have to wait behind the folks who are constantly asking annoying questions and being otherwise confused.
