If you compare the Encounter to the entire universe of restaurants in its price class, maybe you should go elsewhere. If you are at LAX
, it is pretty good. The food in T1-T8 is all airside, so that is off the list. That leaves TBIT. The Encounter can beat that any day. The places in TBIT are crowded and viewless.
There is a sidewalk (footpath if you like) that runs from all the way around the horseshoe from T1 to T8
. Two of them, actually. One on the arrivals (ground) level and one up on the departures level. If it isn't raining walk on the upper level. It is much less crowded, the air is cleaner, and the views better. To get to the encounter there are footpaths leading to it between T1 and T2
, and between T7
. Go to google maps, search for LAX
, and get a satellite view. You can see it all very well. Using the streetview feature you can even see the footpaths on the lover level. You will also see that you can walk across the horseshoe (a nice short cut) at a couple of places.
I walk there all the time. Never take the bus. Remember that you are in LA
. Aside from the lower level pick-up areas, no locals walk anywhere. No crowds.
