First of all, I'm always excited if someone appreciates the quality of UA
which is my favorite airline. But I think UA
's future is not going to be decided by breakthrough innovations but by smart solutions for current problems that help gain market share. For example, I think the merged company should use EWR
for high yield traffic to Europe, Asia etc. and develop IAD
as a hub for connecting traffic (in addition to the high yield O&D that it is providing now). Why? Because IAD
is basically the only airport in the Northeast that allows a significant expansion. So, UA
, build a new concourse C/D and make it an even better hub than it is right now! With regard to other issues, the new UA
has (at the moment) orders for both the 787 and the 350 which allows them to operate the perfect aircraft for different routes. They also have an impressive product for first and business as well as E+. The focus for the next months/years should be on integrating the two companies, create a unified brand identity and realize the projected benefits of the merger.
