Planes You've Flown On, Now In The Desert.

Thu Apr 14, 2011 6:10 pm

A few months before AS retired the last of their MD-80s, I got to fly from SEA to SMF on N975AS. Recently I decided to search the photo database for pictures of that plane, and was a little saddened when this was the first result:

Who else can find a picture of a plane they once flew on parked in the desert?

I cant find a picture, but I assure you the list is endless
For starters, all of NW/DL DC9-30,40 and 10's. Told you the list is endless.

That's why I asked for pictures. I did think about simply asking people what planes they've been on that are retired now, but I realized that would be too easy. Anyone who's ever been on a UA 737, CO 733, AS MD-80, NW/DL DC9-30/40, pretty much any 727, DC10, L1011, etc. would qualify if I did it that way.

Off the top of my head:

23 of Midwest's former 717s
Several Delta 727s (the only one for sure is N525DA)

Most of Midwest Express's DC-9s (and two MD-80s- N805ME and N806ME)

Several Northwest DC-9s (don't know the registrations)

That's probably not all, but a good portion of my list.

Well, the airplanes I flew were in the desert, are now back in business: D-ALCO, D-ALCP, D-ALCS.

Don't know about any other though.
