Question About A DL Flight BOS-ATL c.1991

Tue Apr 19, 2011 7:43 am

Hey all.. I don't know where to put this...

Years ago, circa 1990ish, I was on a Delta flight out of Boston to Atlanta that aborted takeoff.

The aircraft was defiantly a three hole.

Please help me put some pieces together.. Im pretty sure it was a DC10... Because.. I hated L1011s because the overhead bins would always open on takeoff and dump everything. I flew on many L1011s from Atlanta to Florida so being on a Delta DC10 was something different... something memorable. Something I remembered. (And at the time DC10s were falling out of the sky so I was, um, concerned. But, Im not looking to start that flame war)

Where I am going with this question is that I would like to post a question about aborted takeoffs and I am trying to get my facts straight.

Did Delta fly DC10s Boston-Atlanta around 1991?

Where should I post this question... and with more details?

Question About A DL Flight BOS-ATL c.1991

According to information from the Delta Heritage Museum, Delta operated the MD-11 from February, 1991 until January 1, 2004, so your time frame is there. However, the web site doesn't show any BOS service for the MD-11, as they were primarily used for Trans-Pacific routes.

They operated the DC-10 from 1972 to 1975 while waiting on L-1011 deliveries, and again in 1987-88 after acquiring 12 when they merged with Western Airlines. The L-1011 was operated by Delta from 1973 through 2001. All things considered, odds are you flew an L-1011, but I can't say for certain.

Thanks Moose for knowing where to look and taking the time. It must have been an L-1011 after-all. Foggy Hazy memory after 20 years!

A non related side note.. around the same time frame.. I made a trip to Vancouver via Portland from Atlanta and it was defiantly on an MD-11 because it was the first aircraft I flew that had winglets. I was seated in the front... it was the beginning of "Business Class" with push button seat controls.. tho it was still called 'First Class' and the aircraft's final destination was Tokyo. I also want to think there was IFE. Again... its been 20 years!.

I am positive that you flew on a L-1011. DL didn't operate the DC-10's anymore at that time. I remember that i was on a L-1011 from ATL-BOS in 1992.

cheers : DALelite
They loved to fly and it showed..
