Last Time & Reason Your Flight Was Cancelled?

Sun May 15, 2011 12:02 am

The last time my flight got cancelled was an early morning AA MD-80 going from CMH to DFW last September. It was cancelled because of broken rear stairs.

So far, I've been lucky enough to have only one cancelled flight. *knocks on wood* It was last August, a UA 772 from DEN to ORD. That flight was a connection, so you can imagine my disappointment when I stepped off the plane in DEN, went to a flight info screen, and saw that my next flight was cancelled. An unspecified maintenance issue kept the plane on the ground.
Good night, and keep watching the skis. Uh, skies.

My last cancellation was on July 29, 2010. I was scheduled to fly LAX-DFW-AMA on American. My early morning flight from LAX to DFW was cancelled at around 2 AM. I was re-scheduled on a routing LAX-SFO-DFW-AMA. I arrived in Amarillo on the next flight later than the one I had booked, and I had a new experience in SFO on the flight to DFW. That 767 flight was the captain's last before retirement, and we went through a water cannon salute on the taxiway in SFO.

My last one was MUC-BHX, although no reason was given and passengers were half way through boarding when it was cancelled. Re-routed MUC-FRA-BHX.

My last (and only) cancelled flight was ZRH-JFK in December 2010. I flew in from LJU in the morning and returned back on the evening flight. It was cancelled because of the big snowstorm in NY. I was supposed to fly with LX.

My one and only cancelled flight was FR BTS-STN, due to the airport being closed due to fog. I was rebooked the next day. Shame as I thought BTS was CATIII certified? Anyway, I had trouble finding accommodation as there was a World Cup football match on and all the hostels were full of Spaniards, but eventually found a bed, and subsequently had a better day than the previous, with some beers, food and additional sightseeing with 2 hostel roommates, and Indian and an Israeli! Good times! Just had to call in to the office, "Sorry I can't come to work tomorrow, I'm stuck in Bratislava. Can I implement the 'inclement weather policy'? No? Oh well, I'll have to take an additional day's leave then".

April 2010, airBaltic re-launched RIX-MAN but cancelled it only after a week, not enough bookings I guess same goes to June 2010 for same route. They refunded the June and put me on SK to get back from RIX-MAN

Last cancelled flight was Buenos Aires Aeropark to Puerto Iguazú February 28th 2011). The reason was a strike by ATC. After waiting for 5 hours in the terminal, they finally canceled the flight. However we shouldn't be in Buenos Aires but Andes canceled my flight from Salta to Puerto Iguazú for reason unknown to me (fortunately they informed us a week in advance, unlike some other people who discovered the cancellation at the airport).

Last time was in December of 2007. I was supposed to fly OMA-DCA with Midwest, with the plane coming in from MKE. It was in MSN for a charter before that, and wasn't able to get deiced. In the time they were waiting for more fluid, the storm going on there got worse, so it ended up two legs behind and got our flight cancelled. Fortunately my family was able to get the last three seats on the 6AM flight the next day.

I've had several since the new year.
One for engine unable to start after pushback which they could not fix quickly, and two others cancelled due to destination weather (one snow, other serious thunderstorms).

In 2008 when Virgin Blue, now Virgin Australia, cancelled my flight from SYD-MEL due to their computer system completely crashing. I had to rebook on QF at my expense as they would not put me in a hotel overnight, they however kept my flight as future credit which I used towards a MEL-BNE flight in Summer 2009

I was due to fly to Spain last December. You may recall that the Spanish ATC dispute led to the closure of airspace. My planned flight EK141 04 Dec 2010 DXB - MAD was cancelled in consequence.

Fortunately that is the only time I have had a flight cancelled, although I have had to cancel trips due to family illness, etc.

My last 3 cancelled flights have all been between MKE and ORD. Every time was because the weather had ORD so far behind that it wasn't worth running a flight up to MKE and back. The whole round trip is about 90 minutes... including the taxi and turn time!

So... I took the 90-minute shuttle bus ride between the MKE and ORD for $30. And yeah, UA refunded me for not taking their flight.

My one and only canceled flight was a United Express flight from RDU to ORD. The weather in Chicago was really bad that day, and after being delayed due to a ground stop, we finally boarded and started to taxi to the runway, only to be told that we would have to wait even longer. After sitting on the taxiway for at least an hour, passengers were understabdibly starting to get a little bit antsy. The FA, probably not wanting the situation to escalate into one of those "passengers stuck on the tarmac for hours" ordeals that make the news, told us we could go back to the gate, but if we did they'd have to cancel the flight. She took an informal poll of the passengers, and most us preferred to to go back to the gate, having already missed our connections anyway. So we went back to the gate, the flight got cancelled, and I got rebooked to my destination via IAD.

Last cancellation : ORY-PGF with AF on December, 24th, 2010 mid day flight.
This was due to snow in Paris and crazy strong wind in PGF!
As I've been advised by text message early morning, I still had chance to take the car and drive the 900km in horrible conditions.
Flying is amazing!

Have had 3 possibly 4 cancellations.....
IAH-CLE diverted to CVG and cxld there due to CLE winter weather.
DFW-CLE diverted to DTW and cxld there, again CLE winter wx.
SJO-IAH, pressuization issue, diverted back to SJO. After sitting in the terminal for 5 hours, finally cxld right where I started.
Finally IAH-SJO diverted to PTY due to wx in SJO. Crew timed out when in PTY. Since I am a non-rev, spent the night in the terminal overnight waiting for the flight crew to come back from the crew rest. PTY people decided to turn on the air conditioning full blast all night long. Flight never technically cxld, just continued from PTY back up to SJO after about 9 hours crew rest

It happened only once to me, in 2009 I was flying CDG-GVA on AF, connecting to ZRH on LX. When I landed in GVA I saw that the flight to ZRH was cancelled, they put my on the next flight two hours later with a meal voucher but didn't know what happened...

Think my first cancellation was back in January 2010, flying BRS-DUB due to snow. Then, last December because of the snow at LHR, my flight to MXP was cancelled.

And finally back in March, was due to fly BRS-CDG-CPH but unfortunately the aircraft 'went tech' (or so they say!) and I was re-routed BRS-AMS-CPH.

My last (and first) cancellation was in November 2010, flying PIT-ORD-AMS. My 2pm PIT-ORD was cancelled due to tornado warnings over ORD. The next flight was at 5pm, which would give me an hour transfer time at ORD. The 5pm flight was delayed by an hour, at which point the UA desk transferred me to the 7pm flight from ORD to FRA. We sat on the runway for 45 minutes & got re-routed via Wisconsin. I arrived at ORD at 8pm, where I found out that the ORD-AMS flight was also delayed 3 hours!

SJU-UVF on Eagle

Pilot couldn't get one of the engines started....Tried to get it started while on the runway. Attempted a t/o run twice before he realized it wasn't working. One of the scariest times in my entire life. Finally went back to the gate, over nighted un SJU and went on to UVF the next morning.

August 2010, HYD-DEL on IT. I was originally on a flight scheduled to leave at 5:30 PM, then about 3 days before the flight was cancelled due to not enough reservations, and IT instead booked us on a flight leaving at 6:30 AM. Not pleasant to wake up at 4 to drive to the airport, but at least we found out a few days before instead of the same morning. Prior to that, the only other cancellation I had was in February 2003, I was travelling JFK-MBJ on AA during when the blizzard hit, and was rebooked on a flight from EWR via MIA three days later.

DFW-CVG-BWI. The CVG-BWI flight canceled due to storms last July or August. They put me on DFW-ATL-BWI in first instead. Not a bad trade. Only other flight I remember being canceled was LHR-BOS due to a huge ass snow storm on the East Coast in March 2007. Flew MAD-LHR and got stuck in LHR for 2 days.

Well, just last night my connecting flight was delayed over two hours from PHL-SWF. I really wasn't too upset, other than the flight was now due to touch down at 1:00 am. But there were many, many other pax who for various reasons (mx, weather, traffic) missed their connections at the US PHL hub. I was astonished by the hostility of the gate agents and customer service agents. No wonder US came in last in the recent Consumer Reports survey.

Was flying FM from Shanghai (SHA) to Mianyang (MIG) last Friday. We were descending and the pilot announced we would land in 20mins. 5mins later the pilot came on and said that due to thunderstorms we would divert to Chongqing (CKG). We landed in CKG and waited on the tarmac for more than hour without any info (typical of Chinese airlines). Then there was an announcement made that went along the lines of "...jintian wanshang...zai Chongqing...xiuxi yixia...mingtian zaoshang...qufa qu Mianyang..." and in English it was "Ladies & Gentlement...erm...more information later." Of course I understood the announcement in Mandarin and it meant our flight had been cancelled and we would spend the night in Chongqing. So we were bussed to the terminal, where we waited another hour or more to get more info on hotels. Again, most of the announcements were in Mandarin and there was no info given in English. Finally we were told we would be put up at a hostel along with hundres of other pax of the FM, 9C, CZ, and CA flights that had diverted. So we decided to take a taxi to one of the better hotels in front of the airport. Turns out there was a conference in town and all of those hotels were fully booked. We ended up spending half of the night in a nightclub and the other half sitting in one of the hotels' lobby. Worst night ever.

Cheers

The pilot's theory was he could get the bad prop working by moving the plane fast down the runway and forcing air into the non working engine (something to that effect). One of my good friends was a pilot at Eagle, I mentioned this to him and he said in theory it makes sense but would be a dumbass move for a pilot to do. Never EVER have I experienced anything remotely similar. For what it's worth it was a charter for Club Med back in '92.

My last (and so far only) was a BEB-BRR flight on Loganair's DHC-6. This flight (ok, the landing on a beach) was half of why I had decided to visit the Hebrides in the first place... and got cancelled due to maintenance problems with the aircraft. So, I instead got a nice minibus ride to the ferry terminal, a 40-min ferry ride, and a final bus ride into town!

Of course, the Hebrides were enjoyable either way, but I was still hoping for that one... oh well, the route's been going strong for a while, should continue a while longer!
