Shower Facilities At Airports For Economy Class

Wed May 18, 2011 3:26 pm

I know that most business class lounges have showers available for those who utilize their facility. I'm sure there must be a fair amount of economy class passenger who have a long transit and who are very tired and wouldn't mind taking a shower to freshen up as well. I for one, would be willing to pay a bit extra for this comfort. Just wondering why airport or airlines never looked upon this as a money making venture?

Also never understood why the concept of a "yotel" at airports never quite caught on besides Heathrow and Amerdam Schipol. That's why i'm not in marketing.

Explanations?

Thanks,

Well, SIN T1 has a pool that anybody can use, so I assume there are showers there!

Over than that, I haven't seen any shower facilities (other than transit hotels) in terminals. Perhaps, there are shower facilities connected with spa facilities some places.

I once used airside shower facilities that were openly available at STN. This was around 2004 or 2005. I guess they figured that every good campground needs showers.

I couldn't find those showers on visits in recent years, maybe anybody has any info on this?

NRT T1 has publicly available shower facilities also. You have to pay but I seem to recall it was the equivalent of like $6 USD for 30 minutes. Not bad at all really, I thought it was well worth it.

Incheon International Airport has public showers. There are in the departure side of the airport. I think it is $3 for a towel and a few more dollars for toiletries if you need them. Each shower room has a toilet, shower, and sink. I use it whenever my connection time allows. It is great!

They were on a Stansted Airport documentary shown earlier in the year- unfortunately the fact that they are free and unregulated makes them desirable to people who want to shag and sh*t in them. This was according to the guy who was in the segment on the TV programme.

I've seen a sign at AKL pointing to showers. It's on the way to the premium lounges. I don't know what the cost is.

ZRH has showers in both the public and passenger areas of the terminal. Cost CHF15 (about USD17, EUR12).

There are showers at SIN T3, very nice !
I remember there was a single shower at MEL two years ago but it was closed (and didn't look great).

Yes, ICN has free showers though towels will cost you! It's a great idea to bring your own towel, if you don't mind carrying that much hand luggage
It's a cultural thing.
