Did my first international arrival through DFW Terminal D this week with mixed feelings.
AA international arrivals in Terminal A used to be a real pain. You'd arrive somewhere between the mid to lower gates, work your way up to what used to be the roof of Terminal A, walk a half mile to immigration, then work your way into the basement for bags and customs. I figured the new terminal would fix that. Wrong. AA is using the high gates for international arrivals in D, so you get to go up to the second floor, walk a half mile over to the low gate side of D, then go down into the basement. No difference really.
Terminal D has a transit lounge. Don't recall seeing one over in A. Was locked up though.
The facilities were new and nice enough, but Immigration staffing isn't right. Although they have what looks to be 100 stations, for US passengers, only about 4 were staffed. They had more agents working the non-US side, but that was backed up as well.
AA did great at getting the bags unloaded quickly. With the delay in getting through immigration, all the bags were on the belt.
Huge line for customs. 4 stations (all staffed) is not near enough for multiple aircraft arrivals. Took close to an hour to get through there.
