AA New Booking Option

Fri Jun 10, 2011 12:32 am

Just booked a flight on aa.com and a when I selected the hold option I was given two choices.

- Hold for 24 hours (no fee)

- Hold for 7 days ($5.00 fee)

Interesting new way to generate more revenue.

That is good, especially because prices are so volatile. CO does something like this, but you have to pay for both long and short term holds, and I expect AA to eventually do the same thing. This is a good concept for the airlines because I do not believe it will cost them anything in the long run.

However, it does suck that the airlines now have more fees. I wonder what the next will be?

Thank you for all comments/answers,

That sucks, but at least they offer a hold. I couldn't find a hold feature on .bomb when I was trying to book a reward ticket.

AA has always had the option to hold a reservation for 24 hours at no cost. That's one of the things I like most about aa.com.

I hope they don't start charging for the 24 hour hold. That wouldn't be good!

Yes, I realize that. It used to be longer than 24 hours previously as well, several years ago.

It still is. You can hold until midnight the next day in your time zone. So a reservation put on hold at 12:01am is on hold for 47 hours, 59 minutes.

Would be nice if AA waived the $5 extended hold fee in the event you actually did book the ticket.

KL also have a hold option, a 1-time fee of GBP15 or EUR15 to hold for 14 days. A no-fee 24h hold would be good of course as well!
