6 Hour Layover At FRA

Sun Jun 12, 2011 7:54 am

Hi.

I'll be flying GOT - FRA - JNB - CPT in August and I have 6 hours to kill in FRA.
Any suggestions on how to spend the time?

Head over to Terminal 2 taking the Skytrain.
Head for the Food Court and enjoy the views of (a small part of) the apron as well as approaches to parallel runways from there.
If weather is okay you can also visit the viewing deck right in front of the food court (€€€ and security check involved).

If you get hungry and the usual fast food is not what you fancy, consider to walk out of T1 into direction of the bus station (a McDonalds is there for directions), where you will find a Chinese food outlet.

You would even have enough time to go in town. It's a 10 minutes train ride to the city which will only cost you less than 3 EUR. Just make sure to be back in time to clear security and passport control.

If you prefer organized tours, Frankfurt airport is offering tours as well, but I guess only Frankfurt would due since you have time contraints: http://www.frankfurt-airport.com/con...rport/en/bookings/sightseeing.html

Otherwise, HT already said what you could do if you prefer remain near the airport. If you're into spotting and if weather is good, you may also go to the popular spotting points either west of the airport, next to the Startbahn west, or East, next to the A5. You get great views there, although it can get quite full on weekends if weather is nice. And it's free and will cost you nothing. However there is quite some walk (or a short taxi ride) involved. More infos at fraspotters.de or just google.

You may also make an airport sightseeing tour: http://www.frankfurt-airport.com/con...joy0/airport_sightseeingtours.html

If you want to buy something to eat or drink and not spend a fortune, head down to the TEGUT supermarket, which is under Terminal 1, area C, next to Hooters... They also have some hot german fast food stuff.

There is plenty to do in 6 hours, have fun!

I agree. The S8 and 9 stop right at the central station from track 1. The city centre is only 4 stops away. Just make sure you get the right ticket- FRA is technically in a different fare zone, so it will cost 3,40

JNB - CPT

Are you going on the midday SAA A340 flight ?

I'm doing a similar routing at the beginning of September, ARN-FRA-JNB-PLZ and have a 5h20m connection in FRA. Will the visitors terrace be open then and will the sun be 'behind' between approx 6pm and 9pm ?

Sounds like a lot of time but FRA is notorious for bus transfers, slow, and very frequent security checks (often two scans for the price of one), poor signage, and long walks, which help eat up time there.

Or you can pay Euro 225 for a sleep at Sheraton across the street giving that there is no transit hotel inside the airport!

Well, located in Terminal 1 is the "new" private Luxx-Lounge.

http://www.luxxlounge.de/

This is the former American Airlines "Admiral" lounge- unfortunately outside the security area. But, the lounge is offering free snacks, showers and a relax zone- and is promoting a special one-day-entry-pass for only EUR 30,-! But you should prior contact the lounge if space and this special offer is on your day of travel still available.

Hi All,

Thanx for all your tips.

I'll see what I'll do.

Yes, will go on the midday A340-600 flight.

Anyone know if immigration is efficient in JNB?

Last time I passed through on the same flight, immigration did not take very long from deplaning to the baggage claim. Maybe I was lucky....although the A346 was packed that day.
Have a good trip.
