What Genre Of Music Do You Listen To In Flight?

Mon Jun 13, 2011 2:58 pm

I personally like any type of electronic music (mainly trance or progressive).

Other than electronicI also particularly like Stadium Arcadium (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Infinity On High (Fall Out Boy), and Viva La Vida (Coldplay) because I heard those albums for the first time in flight.

What about you?

Cheers

I tend to do podcasts. I catch up on the previous weeks ESPN programs (PTI and Around The Horn), and then listen to various podcasts after that (like Today in History (or something like that) and Stuff You Should Know)

I'm on "the road less traveled" as they say.

For trans-con, I have five or six full-length operas (Puccini's Turandot gets a lot of play).

For shorter flights, I play Mariza (I have every album she's made) Ba-na (Classico da Renascenca and Gira Sol) Val Xalino (love his 'Cap Vert' album) and any other 'Criolu' dialect Portuguese recordings I can find.

Respectable friends already criticize my 'up-the-Amazon' musical taste, so don't do as I have done.

I generally listen to my alternative rock in flight as its pretty relaxing or at least not something that gets me pumped, Coldplay, The Killers, Snow Patrol etc...
Just listening to music and looking out the window, good thinking time.

Viva La Vida (Coldplay)

First time I ever heard this album was while flying EWR-ZRH (going trans-atlantic alone for the first time) in 2008. It was night over the Atlantic and just as the album started I saw the moon, enormous and bright red, rising over the ocean and reflected in it. An amazing sight, and made me even more aware of how impressive aviation is and how immense the planet (and our universe) are. That album will always hold a special place in my heard because of that.

My usual in-flight listening is Dmitri Shostakovich's symphonies. They pass the time incredibly quickly and there's nothing to distract me. I open up the score of the piece I'm listening to and follow along with the music. Nothing puts me in a better mood.

Same for me as well, please!
I'll actually put it broader - any type of dance music, that's what floats my boat. I have a collection of over 45 hours on my iPod so I never get bored

I have a favorite song list I play for my flights, and it truly is mixed. Anything from Country, Pop, Rap, Hip Hop can be heard on the playlist. I like diversity when it comes to music so I don't have a specific genre I play or a specific Artist.
