Opinions On Oman Air J Class

Wed Jul 06, 2011 11:49 am

Hi all

I am booked next month LHR-MCT-BKK on Oman Air in J. I have heard some very good things about their J class product but was wondering if anyone had any experience of flying with them?

Hi ryan, my friend flew the exact same route in March and he is deeply impressed with it. I'd suggest referring to the following TR although it is DXB-MCT-BKK. Service from MCT-BKK should be around the same as LHR-MCT, just that you fly on the A333 on some days.

Basically, WY is a hidden gem in the aviation world. I'd suggest going for it and writing up a report to share your experience!

Flown WY a few times on the London Gatwick - Muscat - London Gatwick routing, mostly on their A310's and 767's (both leased), even though the hard product wasn't amazing, the service certainly made up for it. Would recommend, and with the new A330s on board, the product is even better than I experienced. Agreed with intious, they certainly are a hidden gem.

Out of curiosity, what made you decide to go this route given the multiple nonstop options? If you don't mind telling us what fare you paid, I'd be interested in knowing.

I've see their J fares and they are very very very good. I would fly with Oman in J in a heartbeat. As someone mentioned above, a huge hidden gem in the mid-east.

- I suspect it is price related, the J fares are very reasonable compares to the non stop fares, though EVA Air AR offering some decent pricing, though I think Oman Air's on board service is superior, am considering them myself for next year.

I originally had Qatar Airways booked but I had heard that J in Oman is even better so I decided to take a punt. My full routing is LHR-MCT-BKK on Oman Air (J), then BKK-HKG in Royal Jordanian (J) and BA Club World HKG-LHR

One thing that worries me is there is only a 1 hour stopover in MCT but I assume it will be fine. A nice touch is the free chauffeur service to an from the airport provided to J and F class pax. Basically I am a true flight enthusiast, have worked myself through most of the Y cabins and now that I am older and financial circumstances allow me to indulge in premium classes (sometimes) I wanted to try something different. I remember being blown away by the quality of Qatar airways J class before it became known as a 5 star carrier and I get the vibe that Oman air, by trying to set themselves up as a boutique carrier may be the next big thing. Anyway I will post a TR once I have taken the flights as there are a lot of people curious about this carrier.

Re prices, someone asked what I paid and it was £1200 one way which is in peak season. It's pricier than Eva air(direct) but I wasn't impressed by their J cabin, cheaper than most other major carriers on the route and the J cabin on Oman Air looks like the F cabin on many other carriers so all in all it seemed like the perfect choice and a new carrier for me too

The stop over in Muscat is rather short. I will be flying them next month (J of course for the crazy price!) from BKK-MUSCAT-FRA and I think we only have a 45 minute stopover, so that will allow around 5 minutes in the lounge!

Not half bad. I'll be interested to see your TR... Enjoy the ride!

I have extensive recent experience of most of the world's better airlines, including Oman Air in both classes, and I am sure you will be happy to hear that WY blows them all away in terms of J product. The boutique ethos they are pursuing cannot be cheap (F-style seating, 1-2-1 on an A330; the most luxurious and attractive meal services - better than TG's F) so I don't know how sustainable it is, but what is for sure is that anybody who gets the chance should sample this airline as soon as possible. The trip report linked above is very detailed and reflected my experiences earlier this year.

Definitely a better buy than QR!
