Delta Flight 818 Cancelled This Morning From BWI

Tue Jul 26, 2011 4:14 pm

I have a friend who was supposed to fly this morning on Delta 818 from BWI-SLC. He told me the flight was cancelled because they did not have enough flight attendants on board. My question is: What happens to that aircraft after the cancellation? Does it still fly on to SLC without pax so that it can keep its rotation in tact or does it just get placed onto a different route? If the aircraft was supposed to be in SLC that morning and was not, what would most likely happen? I have always wondered about this situation.

Operations will juggle the schedule around to make it work. The aircraft could be ferried anywhere as another aircraft is substitiuted. There is no set plan because the entire schedule is so fluid. Operations takes a look at the puzzle and makes the least costly/least distruptive adjustment.

Looks like this one flew to DCA to do a revenue flight out of there. http://flightaware.com/live/flight/DAL9939

And SLC-DCA, 2384 canceled this morning. So looks like that 757 will do 2233 DCA-SLC.

With an aircraft returning to one of its hubs, usually there would be spares available. Therefore, I'm sure DL was able to pick up where they left off. As far as the plane in BWI, perhaps they'll recrew it and send it elsewhere.

That must have been some sight seeing this plane cruising at 4000 feet around Washington!
