Which Airline Lounge Offers The Best View?

Mon Aug 08, 2011 3:23 pm

I suppose it goes without saying that if you are a member of this forum that you like seeing different types of aircraft and enjoy watching operations on the ground as well as landings and take-offs.

Some members will have had the opportunity to visit aircraft lounges and some offer better views of the apron and other parts of an airport. Which in your view is the best that you have visited?

At the end of a trip report about a journey to HAM I included some photos taken from the Emirates Lounge. This lounge has nice clean windows that offer unobstructed views of the gates and both runways and taxi areas.

What is your choice for the best lounge in which to view the action?

I personally love the CX "The Cabin" lounge at HKG. It offers good views of both several gates and, even when those gates are full, runway and taxi activities.

I was recently at LH's Senator lounge at FRA, the views were good, from large windows. they were definitely not the best, but much better than the other rencent lounges I had been at (TG, SQ at BKK, SQ at SIN, SQ, QF at PER, SK at OSL, TG at HKT, among others)

P.S. LH's lounge impressed me!

Delta's Sky Clubs at ATL offer great ramp views, and some of them give you good views of both runways. I've been to the one at the T-Gates (T-6) and the one at the center point of Concourse A, and you get some great views from them. The only other one I've been in was at B-25 and the ramp views were good, but the runway view wasn't. The best part of about the time I went to the one on A was it was right next to my departure gate and I could see my a/c come into the gate.

LHR T5! Both the North and South Galleries Lounge's have great views of the runways. South lounge is great on 09 operations as you watch them line up and take off, and the North is good for Landings.

T3 Lounge for BA is good as well, with some nice views out the window
(The views on this site are my own and no one elses)

LHR T5!

Couldn't agree more, esp. from the Concorde Room with champagne and views of both runways. Got to be amongst the best is T5, high up, and a great variety of aircraft and operations.

The Oasis at JFK is right in the middle of T4 and gives a great view of the T4 apron plus the Bay runway when it's in use.

I've only ever been in one lounge, the No. 1 Lounge at STN, used by non-FR flights. At the end of the satellite with views of the runway and all ground movements. Shame there's not much variety in traffic!

Admirals club at LAX gets a great view of some of the gate action at the AA terminal and TBIT. It is especially great at night with some of the QF 747 departures. The upper level and flight deck of teh 747 are just about window level with you at the admirals club which is a floor above the main terminal area, very impressive to see the top of a 747 and to be able to be so close to it, I could watch the pilots pre-flight the aircraft one night waiting for my red-eye to IAD.

The old Admirals club in concourse E of MIA had good ramp action views and taxi way views and even good views of some of the landings and depatures on runway 9/27 or 12/30. But that was closed I think now it is the first class lounger for IB and BA? Also enjoyed the views there, I feel it was similar to the views a ramp control tower would have.

It's closed, but I guess it still exists: the OAK tower lounge. On the eighth floor with a 360-degree view-- can't be beat, aside from OAK's boringness.

United Airlines, Red Carpet Club in Honolulu. Upper floor of the Diamond Head concourse with large panoramic views across the ramps and runways.
